How's everybody doing tonight? I would like to welcome you all to Uncensored with Renee Slay and I'd like to touch on a controversial topic tonight and get your opinion on it. Let's talk about cancel culture. What are your thoughts now? I worry that sometimes cancel culture kicks in without the right let me you see, how do I put this? Innocent until proven guilty. Right?

I do believe there are circumstances that are so horrifying that you can completely take a person and separate them from the rest of humanity because what they have done is just that heinous of a deed. When we talk about someone like us, Hitler, who literally slaughtered a whole race of people and committed genocide in a way that was absolutely astonishing in that circumstance. Yes

@Pixiepoet4lifeΒ Β·Β 4:44
And I don't think that Cancel culture does. I think that it creates a lot of insighting. I think that it creates a lot of confusion. I think that it takes away unity from society. And so I don't really see it as being necessarily a positive thing. Now, once again, I should say that I am not particularly talking about any one case in this situation

But then there needs to be a measure, and I think it's one, unless you really don't know how your own behavior works, that a mistake needs to be treated as such. Once you realize you've made a mistake, you go from there, and you be better for it, and you learn your lesson, and you learn a lesson that improves you and enriches you. Now, obviously, with some behaviors, like R. Kelly as well as Bill Cosby, those people are monsters

I just had to post a subject, but I didn't want to step on your toes in Theo way that you actually have a solution to some of this. As far as you had mentioned taking the funds or what? Have you from their previous recordings and let those still be enjoyed. But then use that money toward the good or the benefit of the people that have been hurt by these people or people like those people through organizations and such

Lord knows, if I was judged on my path, I'd be canceled. I'm sure I'd be judged. I'm judged all the time. And the same thing applies to this. These people were being judged based on something that they did from a long time ago. The degree of what they do. I completely agree with you. Bringing up Hitler, like, stabbed me right in my heart. Absolutely correct. That who decides. Theo level, almost

And I understand that it's a movement designed to make people better, but I think it makes them feel worse. And, you know, when it comes to people's behaviors, that's literally just monstrous or horrific, once again, we'll go back to, you know, Bill Cosby and R. Kelly. Like, these are not mistakes. These are who these people are. They're monsters. What they did was not only illegal as well as amoral, and they definitely deserve to be punished

So she went back after she had written her manuscript or whatever, and she was going through the processes with that. She literally went back and added this fictionalized story about how Bill Cosby actually handled her. And I'll just say the word handled or mishandled her. And then she was talking about an interview after interview or whatever, and then when it didn't line up, she admitted that she lied just to sell books. So if she was allowed in this whole big shenanigan?
When I think back either decades ago, let alone centuries or millennia, humans, we interacted in much different ways. Empathy, how to curb behavior that was unacceptable, or saying things that were unacceptable. There were different methods that we went about depending on the time, theo scenario and so on, right? But as soon as you start to introduce technology, the phrase that comes to mind is with great power comes great responsibility

And I've seen some stories where people haven't gotten a fair trial or haven't even been prosecuted, and it's like, let's cancel them, or things are being dug up, like, it's been said, and people do make mistakes, and people make mistakes based on ignorance, and people do grow, and people do change, and ignorance is taught sometimes. And so does ten years make a difference? Yes, it can

Girl, thank you so much for popping over and getting in on this conversation. It is a very, very deep one. In response to what you said, I am with you. I am with you on the fact that I am one of those people that once I have proof that something has happened and I don't know, girl, did you see the documentary on R. Kelly? It's insane. All those people. It broke my heart
Erica Jean

Many of his songs, you know, from the 90s onward is deeply intertwined with our memories from childhood at cookouts and just at family houses and the videos, his music videos and all of that, it's just intertwined with our memories in our childhood
I just said I gave my opinion, and it's my right to give my opinion, and it's not your right to force me to date someone that I don't want to date. So it's just silliness. It's pathetic. Many of these people who lead these cancel culture campaigns on social media have no life. They are just miserable. And you know what they say? Misery loves company. And therefore they're not happy in their lives. They have nothing going on
Erica Jean
@HeyItsEricaΒ Β·Β 2:47
But again, it is a complex situation because as a consumer, you want to have that free choice to pay for whatever you want to pay for and support based off of whatever those reasons are. And as someone had said on Swell, I forgot his name, he did mention the idea of free speech. So that's an idea. And it's also something that is legal
Renee Slay
@Renee_SlayΒ Β·Β 1:39
And I agree with that at the same time. Okay, what's too far? Because I am not the judge or jury. I'm like you. I make my own choices. So, I mean, this resonates with me completely

@Renee_SlayΒ Β·Β 4:38
If you didn't want to date a particular female, I don't have I don't I don't I don't have the right to push it down your throat, but I also wouldn't want to because what kind of match up would that be? So you can have your opinions. Just let's not put hate out there, because God doesn't want judgment either
Renee Slay
@Renee_SlayΒ Β·Β 0:35
Yes, ma'am. Absolutely. Without the technology, none of this could be a thing. Our voices didn't reach wide and far. And I don't know that it would have mattered in the 90s because, like you, it's just that we just didn't do it if we didn't listen to them, we didn't buy their product. If we knew of something thing personally or had heard whatever the case maybe had seen on the news. So I agree with you
J.L. Beasley

He actually released something. What was it? Last year, late last year or during the summer of last year from jail about the s*** he has done. And as much as discussing that song is, it still hits. The song still as Long As H***, but it still hits. So I Say All that To Say, if Not Every infraction that every Person does is not treated equally, then let's not cancel because it doesn't make sense
Renee Slay
@Renee_SlayΒ Β·Β 1:16
And like I've said, I get where they're coming from, too. They want to do something. They want to step up for the little guy. They want to stand up for the women. They want to do something. People are driven to do something. I just don't know that cancel culture is the right thing to do. There's other ways. Let's find other ways
