Relationship Boundaries: What are some of yours and what happens when they are ignored?

article image placeholderUploaded by @Renee_Slay
I myself am at 45 years old, just learning about boundaries through therapy. Believe it or not, boundaries weren't talked about a lot where I grew up. I know that I had mistakenly thought that they were roles for someone else, but they are not. I know for sure now that they are. They are actually for yourself. It's things that hard lines that you want to set for yourself and how you're treated or what you accept into your life

I also used to think of boundaries as rules you set in place and if somebody crosses them, it's obvious that they didn't respect me or now it's like my boundary has become an ultimatum, like, you're going to stop doing this or we're not going to be together. And sometimes it can be that

I don't want to be alone. I want to hold on to whatever love I find. And it has taken me a lot of rocky, rocky places. And talking to someone that has been in therapy for anything is beautiful because that is not something that existed in the world that I was in until recently. So I love any contribution that you can share on this

There's a book for the fellowship based around Codependency Anonymous and the book is, I think, called Codependency Anonymous. But the way they break it down and explain that there are certain things that have happened in our childhood. And as empathetic or emotionally sensitive beings, we can detect certain tonalities or emotional inflections or something in our parents or friends or friends parents or whatever people along our path of discovering how to communicate, where we can start to notice things that upset people

I actually followed you because you say that this is that I don't know if you said you were just beginning or if you just starting to learn about, but you sound very educated on the topic and I love everything you said. And just to add this also, that when you stated that we tend tend to draw these types of people then and then we get into these relationships and create or not create because I won't say I'm creating my own trauma

You kind of backpedaled on what you had said in there about attracting people or creating the reality that is leading to more trauma. As hard as it may be to believe or to seem at least sit in that, I really think it's healthy to sit in that. And don't degrade yourself. Don't beat yourself up, don't beat yourself down. But consider maybe there is a fact in the process that we are to some degree choosing the same belief structure

Thank you so much for adding to this for me. I totally get what you're saying about the mirroring theory. It also works with my spirituality and things like manifestation. If you buy into or believe you have, then you do. But I guess the mirroring theory, from what I'm understanding, is within yourself and your views of the world. Which to be honest, I do get a little confused about because I'm supposed to
