Selective Outrage

article image placeholderUploaded by @Professor42
It's almost like a Democratic stance. Democrats said, no, you must protect others. You have no choice. Taking a Republican stance and saying, we need to protect others. Let's talk about welfare in general. Republicans will say, Democrats, they're all about personal welfare. Medicaid, food stamps, it's costing taxpayers too much money. Yet they will look away at corporate welfare, which is the tax write offs of TVs, computers, laptops, things of this nature

Choosing to be offended by something & ignoring something else that is similar to what you're outraged by. Everyone is a victim inspired by Chris Rock

But what you're really asking us to do is to see the irony of it and to recognize it and to also find opportunities to challenge these people who come in our circle. If they're in our orbit, we should be able to exchange this conversation with them and have them sort of notice it, maybe soften their stance a little bit, seeing that if you are pointing your finger out, there should be three pointing back at you and notice what they're pointing at

We have this selective outrage cinematic universe that has created itself based on the ideologies one subscribes to the groups one supports and the ideal future one envisions for themselves. Right? And so, yeah, I think ultimately, this is all using outrage to invoke empathy, to tell a story that gets more attention. But, yeah, the end result is unfortunate, as Deborah also said, that your response is evocative

And I guess I want to say that I'm very glad that it did do that, because I actually enjoy it when people force me to think differently. My ideas and behavior has radically shift in the past decade. There were ideas that I had, obviously a long time ago, that I no longer have, and my ideas have changed, and that is thanks to a lot of people. And I think that's important for people in general to have

I think it must be written by yourself. And if I do have any additional conversation, I'd like to follow up with, I will certainly tag you again. Professor 42. Out

Hey, Binati, I just wanted to pick up on that correlation of the triangle of outrage, empathy and victimization. It's such a fascinating sort of triad in a way, if you look at it, and what balances all that out, because they're all very human things is really the continuation of the conversation, I think

But you knew where they stood on a certain topic because of the historical record, right, that they would say, well, screw that. They're not coming to take my guns. We're on the left side. Screw that. You better put your mask on. I'm just giving you a realistic conversation that took place here. So what's interesting, again, is how context has been all but forgotten when we look at issues in this country
