It was reported yesterday that the Dallas Mavericks are no longer playing the national anthem before their home games. This is at the request of Mark Cuban and has actually been happening for the past 13 games without anybody really noticing or at least nobody voicing that they noticed. But with it being reported yesterday, the outrage is real not only in Dallas but also across the nation. And it begged the question to me, is the national anthem really necessary to be played at all sporting events every single night?
Hey, Phil, really interesting analysis there. I read an article that the Athletic put out about this actually probably 15 minutes before I saw your post here. So laws of magnetism, I guess I have guess a controversial opinion on this, but only controversial if you are one of those people that feel like standing during the national anthem is an absolutely necessary thing to do and is a make it or break it moment in terms of your I don't ever stand during the national anthem
It would have been fun, but, yeah, I guess I just don't really understand it. Like, why is it that we so blindly follow this tradition of singing before sporting events? But nobody. If you ask anybody, why do we sing it? What's the meaning of other song? Nine times out of ten people won't know the answer to it. So why is it that we're singing a song that there's not even education around?

As you can see, people are very upset. I also think I've got personal friends who are very upset about the kneeling, and they're going to be upset about this and they say, hey, I'm done with the NFL. I'm done with the NBA. Of course, it always appears to me that's when their teams are struggling and as soon as our team turns it around, they're right back to watching
