Why does Hollywood use all-stars instead of voice actors in animated films?

You also have the ability for those stars to go on the talk show scene and really promote the movie as well, help market it. Those two I absolutely get. But at the expense of the movie itself is just kind of self defeating. And the irony behind Seth Rogen being in this movie is just too sweet for me. Not to mention because he got his start on a show called freaks and Geeks. And freaks and Geeks did something that was pretty unique in that show

In addition to the reasons that you laid out, I kind of wonder if it also has to do with how good or bad the script is. Like, can the script stand on its own? I remember aladdin was I was obsessed at the time, and I don't remember there being any big names in Aladdin or little Mermaid or beauty and the beast or the lion King. And yet today, even decades later, people can quote those movies. They can sing some of those songs

Oh, my goodness. How could I forget that? Like any other representation of the genie did not measure up in my mind? None. It could only be him. I can't believe I forgot that. Thank you. Though we could say that he probably is also a voice actor, and so maybe I don't know. Either way, it's both sides of the coin

Well, fast forward to FanX just this past year, and he was here, and my son got to meet him. And me and him are both fans. My son is such a huge fan and actually got him to do lines for some of the games. And he was just wonderful. So nice to talk to. Had a good chunk of time talking to him, too

Oh my god, this so grinds my gears. The work done by VA VAS. Oh, my God. In the audiobook industry as well. We are having this problem where audiobooks which were previously completely voiced by voiceover artists, they are now kind of little by little specifically for the mega bestseller books. They are now completely being voiced by celebrities. And I'm not saying celebrities or all stars do a bad job, of course they don't

And I could totally tell that Sheth Rokin did not put his all into that role. He didn't try to fit into that role. He just was him. So, yeah, it does kind of take you out of the movie. And I agree with you. Having stars play animated characters, it does take away from the fantasy of it because all you do is see that actor playing that role unless it's not announced

There's been so much great conversation on this thread, Phil. Thanks for getting Theo ball rolling and thanks to everybody who has participated because this has been some great discussion and I think that there have been a lot of excellent points raised. So I'll start with Caveat. I have not yet seen the movie. I've seen the trailers, but I think I more so want to speak to the degree to which of Hollywood uses these big budget actors to ultimately serve as voice actors

But then I think about places like Universal Studios Hollywood and Disneyland, where in the parks, Chris Pratt is sort of he's like kind of the marquee now. He's in the parks almost as much as some of the most famous Disney characters of all time. And what I mean by that is, at Universal Studios Hollywood, for example, you have the Jurassic Park Jurassic World ride, which, of course, Chris Pratt is a part of

A point of reference is something that is familiar with and even if the Mario brothers, the Mario movie is about Mario and super Mario and everybody is familiar with it, it might still be not enough. So you need at least a lot of familiarity to have people to come to have at least their stereotypical child to watch a movie with their adult and dirtly. I think this is my third reason I kind of forgot what I was talking about partly. I'm sorry. Marketing. Yeah
