Retail Shopping: A Major Shift

And this year here, even though I'm not in retail anymore, I'm seeing a major shift, and I wanted to bring this on swell to really kind of ideate, throw this out there and just see what other people are seeing and feeling because I see a major shift in consumer behavior here. And I thought it was an ad hoc kind of thing. And then I saw the data come out. This week, $9 billion was purchased online

Shopify increased sales by 75% and accounted for over half of all e-commerce sales. This may be the future.

Returns Killing retails bottom line

Hi Fell just heard an interesting report. Returns in retail are up 100% of last year and the cost of the goods returned are 60% of the initial to show value. No wonder why retail is losing money

Still, if that person was going to buy one parent, if they actually did enjoy that experience, they were likely to be repeat buyers. But as more shopping does go online, I am not surprised by that increase in returns, and I don't know how much smaller businesses are able to take that in. I know Amazon can take that in all day long, but that kind of worries me about the smaller businesses

Returns increase and margins decrease

Hey Phil, the news article didn't give a breakdown as per category, but I am guessing that apparel is upwards of 25% returns. I watch my daughter shop for her three daughters and it's unbelievable how much stuff she buys knowing that she's going to send much of it back. I'm assuming that she is very typical of most shoppers today and they have no qualms in buying outfits and sending them back regarding margins and these merchants ability to eat the margins, they are also getting slammed
