Does the regular season matter anymore in the NBA and NHL?

And you only have to look at Dallas and Vegas playing each other in the finals to say that, yeah, regular season does still mean something. And when you look at the Denver Nuggets, you say the same thing, hey, these guys have built up what seems to be an unstoppable force that's on this way to hoisting that NBA championship

But I think it would be wrong for me, especially because I'm such a big soccer fan, to not kind of poke fun at the playoffs and how it works here in the US. And also in Major League Soccer. It's something that you speak to any MLS fan and they will pretty much all be in agreement that they'd like to see a more traditional relegation system be introduced just because tension grows and things are at stake

I have to agree with both Phil and Taylor as far as the regular season in the NBA. I can only speak for NBA because I don't watch the NHL or soccer. But to me it's like teams play for a specific seating during the regular season. It used to be they played for the record or to break the record, but now it's like they understand how to bracket goal, what team they will face, the first round, second round, third round
