A very necessary but missing TikTok feature.

article image placeholderThe offending overlap.
I would have thought by now that maybe TikTok would have incorporated the ability to make everything disappear temporarily so you could see those words or whatever else is put in the bottom half of the screen. Maybe they have and I've just missed. I don't know, but this drives me nuts

For the love of gawd, why doesn't this exist?!?

@SeekingPlumb

It's a head scratcher. πŸ€” @Joylove

Yes. I've always wondered why those new major features seem to be prioritized over the little things, you know. But now that I say it out loud, maybe that's just it. You know, the new thing is more exciting and fun. And then doing the thing that's necessary. Part of me thinks, though there has to be something more like, I'll often lean back on the idea that it's tied to money in some way

Seen as a minor annoyance to some but has some deeper issues

And so maybe this issue is more systemic than it might appear. Maybe this issue is simply that there haven't been enough people who have complained or brought it up because for those who, like I said, don't rely on those captions, they may see the issue find it a bit annoying, but not annoying enough to report it because they don't rely on it. Just a thought that I thought I would bring into the conversation

Many changes need to be made

But TikTok has a lot of issues it needs to solve. And honestly, I think this is not the biggest priority if they're going to start actually changing the app for the better and making it a place where all creators are treated equally and have the same opportunities to succeed. However, think it needs to be addressed, hopefully by having more conversations about it. Eventually they'll take notice and change it in a necessary way
@SeekingPlumb

Great points, @Izzy & @liora. πŸ™πŸ»

I and it's nice at least to see that movement in that direction. But I completely agree with you, Leo. There are the things that need to be addressed. And Unfortunately, I also think you're right that this is something low on the priority list

Captions as a trend

Trends are moments in time that often don't make really deep rooted solutions or impacts which we really need. So I think that the captions on TikTok are really a trend. And because of that, there is not real change being made, even if it's as simple as adjusting the ability to remove the title and description in order or to see the captions that might be under it. So that is just another thought that I had listening to Leora's response that I wanted to also put out there
@SeekingPlumb

Trend > Habit > Culture Shift. @Izzy

More great points, Izzy. I wonder what moves a trend? From a trend to a habit and from a habit to a shift in culture. Like, how long does a trend have to exist before it's it's no longer considered a trend
