So I just think we need to have a completely different conversation and not be talking about the length of a sentence, but put our attention more on what was the intention of a Correctional system in the first place. And are we even meeting that and how that intersects with racism and sexism and all of the other problems that were confirmed fronting in this society. So it might not be the most popular take on this, but I think it's an important conversation that we need to have

These are the tools that we'd like to see so that we can obviously lower the rate of recidivism, but also just get people out of the system altogether and never enter into it. But these conversations that are happening now, the buzz around this is just so punitive. It comes from pain, though I recognize it because inequity causes so much pain and reactionary, language and behavior. But to your point to your wife's point of helping us see, what are we really angry about?
