ETHNIC STUDIES IS NOW A GRADUATION REQUIREMENT IN CALIFORNIA

article image placeholderCalifornia students will have to take ethnic studies to get a diploma
People are now becoming more and more educated and knowledgeable about the things that are going on in the world. And we're having these huge accomplishments like this one that just happened. And I'm really, really excited about this. I was a little bit shocked about the fact that I hadn't heard about it until my teacher had brought it up

But I mean, it wasn't, like, so foreign coming from a really not diverse place. But so many kids I grew up with in school were so isolated and literally did not know anything about other cultures or any other people or whatnot, which is just crazy. But I think this is like a really great change. It was going to change things for the better. And I hope that other places start taking this into account

I think with what he had, I do think that you definitely do need an organized curricula and trained teachers to be able to pull this off. Well, unless if you want to make it sort of like just insert the blips, let me know. Anyway, those are just my thoughts. It would be really interesting to see an eight to nine years how this is going to go and appear and at which levels also be great if you can maybe drop the link where you heard about this

This is so important!

I mean, if you look at just like our entire history of the United States and more recently, with Dapple protests and all this stuff, I think it's super duper important that we are now actually implementing a curriculum that is not only teaching his story, like, basically the history from a white man's perspective and going to be now really talking about what actually happened so that we can prevent these things from happening again

This will take time but it needs to be a finely crafted curriculum!

And that tells you everything you need to know high school, unless you have a really special teacher that takes you to those places, they're really going to only gloss over certain things. But I felt encouraged seeing a lot of students taking courses that were challenging them to think outside the box to put themselves in another person's shoes. So this is a really huge step forward. I was a teacher. I totally understand why it's going to take that many years to implement

Obviously, ethnic studies should be a part of the core curriculum. But you should also think that there should be priority teaching it in other, maybe more conservative, rural dominated States. Yeah, but I guess it makes sense that California is the first one to take the steps. It's all small steps towards the eventual goal of, I guess, making it mandatory across all of the United States. But yeah, again, thanks for sharing. It's a great topic

And I have absolutely zero faith that a truth that is being told appropriately and accurately and in such a way that forges a new, more inclusive and restorative future for people will happen. I'm not trying to rain on your parade, but I'm using actual history as a barometer. It's my hope that these studies are not gerrymandered. It is my hope that this will bring change and that all of the activism and protesting suffering that came from that will bear long standing fruit
