Standardized Testing: An Institution that Creates a Severe Divide Between the Have’s and the Have Not’s

article image placeholderUploaded by @Noalily
And one, it doesn't really tell you anything about a person, whereas the other, the latter tells you what kind of student you would be admitting to your school. So I hope this made sense because I just get really frustrated. So I hope I'm not just talking in circles, but I am really intrigued as to what you all think about standardized testing

What are your thoughts on the ACT/SAT? IT MAKES ME SO ANGRY

Hi, Noah. Thanks for your topic. I actually did a whole research project in high school and my Apu's history class on the College Board. It's how it came about as well as the history of their test. So while I'm administrator and certainly no qualified expert, I do want to share, like, a little bit that I remember learning about and what was actually a very interesting topic. So I'm not going to go on a whole history spiel for you

The kids that did well in his classes do not always do well on the standardized test and vice versa. I really just think standardized testing is a game of luck and should not be around a real thing because it is just crazy and absurd. And I just think it needs to go bye bye because there's so much more depth to a person than a test score

@N1kkums @LilahJane

So I really appreciate you just kind of coming on here and giving a little less about that because I thought that was really interesting. And then also, Lila just definitely in the same boat. I personally am not a strong test taker, but I am a good student. So I do well in school because I work really hard. And so I think that standardized testing just does not reflect how I am as a student. Agree with you

Couldn’t agree more

So glad that you brought this topic up, because in high school, this was probably the lowest point of my life was like when I was taking these standardized tests. And like you said, I also came from a very privileged background where I was able to have tutors and buy the fancy books and spend hours and hours studying for these exams. But I didn't do as well as I thought I was going to do

preach!

And I remember it's a stressful process not only for maybe people who are good test takers because you're trying to perform and everything, but it's also for people who aren't necessarily good test takers. You can imagine it's like a whole added load of stress that you are sort of forced to do this task that you are naturally not very good at that. Ultimately in a very strong capacity determines your future

@chlomonsta #tangent on birb

Hi Chloe, this is not related at all, but I think the burden in your background, I think it's a scrapche. Or at least it could possibly also be a scrub Jay because I've had those that same call outside my home growing up for years. And then my sister and I, we try to do like reverse Google image with just like descriptions to find the bird. And it turns out to be a scripture. Anyway, I just wanted to pop that in

@Noalily

So I think it goes back to show that just being able to do well on the test one time is not necessarily indicated that you have the knowledge and skills that test says you have by doing well
