Let's talk about cancel culture - an open discussion

article image placeholderUploaded by @NLOFrank
Let's let's let's talk about cancel culture. It's a really important conversation at the moment, and I have been reluctant to bring this to the station because I have seen it blow up. I have seen the conversation blow up into quite heated debate, including getting quite personal towards individuals and groups. However, it is something that's happening. It's impacting on things, especially in the UK at the moment, and I've had personal experiences been impacted on

But in the case of Harry Potter, it is such a major part of our society of pop culture, of growing up. I would say so it's interesting to hear that you're having that conflict with Harry Potter world and wanting to be able to share that experience with your child. But also you're sort of hitting a brick wall in that you also don't like the person that is responsible for all of it. I think that in that case, the one thing that I'm reminded of

Hey Taylor, thank you so much for your reply. You've brought up some really, really interesting points. First off with the Crosby versus harpotter thing and that generational thing where Harry Potter is a recent slide. Current content is still being consumed today, so that impacts on the current generation, the younger generation a little bit more than, say Crosby, where a lot of young people today that might be consuming content are not really going to be consuming that content

It’s complicated and not, I get it. @NLOFrank @Taylor

If that's her, that's her brand. Her brand is transphobia, right. And she happened to create Harry Potter. I think now that could be too simplistic and too global. But that's sort of the way I process these things in my mind. And Ironically enough, I was having a conversation with my partner last night and I was saying to her that someone on social media was like, in the black community culture

But I haven't been able to explore what's going on and to understand myself what's going on and how to navigate cancel culture in a constructive way. So just putting this on and having your response and Taylor's response has been already so powerful and so useful for me. Yeah. Thank you so much. I've got a lot of food for thought, and I'm glad that I put this out there and opened up this conversation in a safe, nonjudgmental environment

@NLOFrank 🙏🏾✨✨

I feel like my answer was because he's just processing it. So thank you for truly just putting it out there. All right. I hope we get more responses. All right. Bye

There's literally a murderer that's like a crossdresser I will put in inverted commas, and it's just some terrible cliches and this clear exploration of her deep seated fear of trans people, which is highly unpleasant. So yeah, I think my opinion is separating the art from the artist

Thank you everyone for joining in this conversation

We went to films together, so it's like, tainted, like, you know, some childhood memories for me. We had Christmas presents themed around Harry Potter. Me and my mom sat and read them together. And I think that's one of the things that I personally find difficult is letting go of some of that. But then feeling like I'm not feeling right to pick up anything like that. So I'm babbling now, but thank you so much for everyone who has contributed this conversation
