My little brother: Autism Awareness month

article image placeholderUploaded by @Nisahs_Audio
And this kid, I'm telling you, this kid, my God, he's a smart kid. He has a 6th sense. You can't hide anything from this child. I guess. Let me start from the beginning. So at age three, he was diagnosed as severely autistic. And so my parents were overwhelmed with pamphlets and flyers, and they were confused, right? So they sent him to therapy to work on his occupational skills, his speech

And people need to be made more aware of what it really is, what it means, and how to advocate for those that do have it and for those who are family members of people that have it, so that there's more understanding in this world, that's the major thing that we should be focusing on accomplishing in life is to learn how to be more accepting of everyone and provide love and joy and connection for everyone and not discriminate against anyone

You gave me a great theme called Food Retaliation. This is such a beautiful post, and I just want to thank you really deeply for creating awareness for me and for others and just being here on Swell and adding so much value. I just always really enjoy your post. So I just want to thank you here for introducing us to your little brother. It's wonderful

It's. Definitely. Of course. I'm so happy you shared your story about your cousin. Yeah. A lot of people, I realized, growing up, don't treat autistics or the special needs community as human. Right. They treat like strangers or they're foreign people, but it they're just human beings who just need a little love. And I feel like that's how my brother, he improved because we gave him the love and the attention

He'll be in diapers until he's old or he won't be able to be potty trained or he won't be able to cook or feed himself. And now he's doing that and a lot more. So maybe I'll share more stories about him because, honestly, I got a lot more stories to tell about this kid because as soon as we locked the backyard door, he's definitely spilling oats on the floor, he's begging the kitchen, he's spilling milk

Hey. Thanks, Arish. I'm so glad. Hopefully I will be posting more stories about my little brother because he's done a lot of crazy stuff and he has done a lot of sweet stuff, too. Yeah, I'll definitely be sharing a lot more stories about our childhood throughout the month and throughout the year as well. Yeah. Thank you. You have a good day

Thank you so much for sharing your story about your brother. I think it is so important. I'm also autistic, and the more that people can hear, I think about the different ways that autism presents itself. Like, there's that phrase. I love that if you've met an autistic person, you've met an autistic person because it's so different in each of us

I'm trying to do a one take. There's some stereotypes that just needs to be broken and the truth about the autistic community, because I feel like a lot of people just, like, Sherlock's stereotyping and stigmatizing in the autistic community because I've met my brother's classmates, and, oh, my gosh, they're such the sweetest kids in the world
