Famed hip hop photographer Ricky Powell has sadly left the building. RIP Ricky your amazing photography will not be forgotten.
And he just was a true character. If you watch interviews with him, the guy was hilarious. He was truly one of a kind and he was an inspiration to me. And I'm just really bumming. He just was a really cool cat. And it said that we no longer have him. He was a fixture in the music and art community, and his work will be sadly missed

Follow closely by Check Your Head. I have a Check Your Head shirt that I bought a few years ago and whenever I wear it, it's the most common on shirt that I wear. It just is. But I just thought that he was New York. I mean, he just kind of personified New York. He just captured New York better than anybody I've seen

That's what he was known for. And that's what he had a talent for. He was a true New Yorker. He represented old school hip hop. He represented the culture. He represented amazing photography and just the true essence of New York City. And he'll be sadly missed. But he leaves behind a phenomenal body of work. And I urge people that listen to this to look into him. Look up Ricky Powell. He was quite a character and an amazing human being

Neil, you bring up the fisheye lens. You know, I was thinking about that. I just didn't know what you called it. I really didn't. And I don't remember anybody really utilizing that before Ricky Powell and especially with The Beastie Boys. So I wanted to ask you, Is that something that Ricky Bauer really popularized? And was there somebody before him that utilized that a lot? I mean, I just don't remember that

There are other that have used it, I think like Spike Jones has used it a lot in his videos. And The Beasties did hold it now hit it, which was all Fish Island's video. And Ricky Powell did a lot of black and white fish eye style for The Beasties in several pics around New York City, and you could see them in his books, his photography books. So he was a champion pioneer of that style for sure. When

But he did a lot of fishy on a regular camera, whereas Ricky Powell used a point and shoot mostly. But he had the capability to fish eye, because if you go back and look at his photos, he has a lot of fish eye, particularly with The Beastie Boys. But both of them together tackled a lot of the Beastie Boys photos and did some phenomenal work. So I just wanted to mention that Glenn Freedman and Ricky Powell both used a lot of black and white and fisheye lens
