Remembering Scorsese’s gritty masterpiece "Taxi Driver" on its 45th Anniversary.

article image placeholderTheatrical poster
What's up, everybody? Its Neal D back again with another film segment on film Talk, and this post is inspired by an article I read about a film that I love since I started studying film, and that is Martin Scorsese masterpiece in 1976, Taxi Driver, written by Poll Schrader. And the article explains how this film is overrated now, from a film aspect, Taxi Driver embodies all the elements that a film should encapture, and it does

I celebrate Scorsese’s character -centered master opus on its 45th Anniversary and why it’s such an important film.

Hi, Karen Dev. Although I appreciate the response. Applause, Emoji. I'm sure you've seen Taxi Driver. How about a reply opinion on the film? A minute. That's all it'll take of your time will be appreciated. Thanks man. Bye

But a lot of it is like he's carrying the whole thing. And then the other thing that I really think can't be stressed enough that you said is how it's basically like one of the first movies ever to show, like you said, The Antihero. It's like a bad guy or it's a guy doing bad things for a good cause, which you didn't really see before this that much

But it's really interesting. You see just the breakdown of a community and the breakdown of a man who is living in this world and is trying to reach out but can't seem to relate and find help. So the only way that he knows how to leave his voice is through ultraviolence and he becomes a quintessential antihero. And that's why the film is so influential because there's many films after that that has the same character breakdown of an antihero

It was so long since I'd seen the film, in fact, that I just rented it on YouTube, too, and I'm planning on watching it later tonight so that hopefully I can contribute a little bit more to this thread because honestly, I feel like it would be a disservice to square safety if I don't brush up on it before I respond

I don't know if you want to call it madness, but whatever it is he ends up at. And then one thing that I am reminded of after the final, I guess we'll say the climax of the film you're really left to sort of wonder, are we really seeing real life? Is this Travis or is this a dream of Travis? Is this what he hoped that he would become and that sort of sits with you for a while and causes you to really reflect

I don’t like taxi driver here’s why

It showed like such a crappy representation of New York, although I am from Boston and I don't really like New York, and it didn't show like a really s***** side of New York back in the 1970s, which is good, but I would never consider it. Mars says he's best film his two best movies in my opinion, and probably I'm sorry. His Prete best movies, in my opinion are Raging Bull. Goodfella

And it's all fictional, which makes it ten times harder than actually doing films based on real events and real people, which are good fellas, Raging Bull and Wolf of Wall Street. Taxi Driver is not my favorite Scorsese film, but in the pantheon of cinema. It is one of the most influential films ever made on human condition. On a character breakdown, just being human

And the way that the transition of the story happens. And like you said, the city New York City almost is like the villain in that movie. Like you said, like another character. And it's very hard to do that. But it's like he takes the city as a whole and makes it like an opposing side. So it's pretty cool. And yeah, he's basically starting from scratch, like these other movies, Casino Goodfellows, whatever

The reason why I like watching that stuff, Neal, is because it's gritty, but the good guy seems to win at the end. Mom, Taxi Driver, it is an amazing film. Do not get me wrong on that. But the issue is I just found it a bit too much for me. And this was before I started watching shows like Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad and out of Banks, even for that matter. But I'm getting ahead of myself

He doesn't make them for the Academy Awards. And a lot of his films are based off of human condition. So I can completely understand why you don't favor Taxi Driver, and that's completely okay. Again, no need to apologize. You didn't offend me and we'll bit. But I'm just saying, look at it from a different perspective and how influential the film really is
