article image placeholderUploaded by @NealD
What's up, everybody? It's Neal D. Back again with another film segment on film Talk. Often I get asked, what are my five favorite directors? I get asked this on Facebook quite often and it's hard to answer, but I'm going to give it a go here on Swellcast. I only have five minutes, so here it goes. My number five director is Quentin Tarantino because of his use of dialogue and pays homage to 70 cinema

Talking favorite directors. Who are your top 5 and why? What impact have they had on you in film?

There's John Hughes. It doesn't have to be horror. There's so many. And then when it comes to film, but like TV as well, you got David Chase credible I can't put a number on number five. I can't put a name on that at all

No, of course it was persona I saw for the very first time my senior year of high school, and it completely blew open what a film could be for me. I remember having a moment just being like, what you can do this, which sounds so innocent and naive now, but he really made me rethink what films could be

But whenever I encounter people and I tell them that I took a class like that, they are blown away and say that they've never heard of it. And I think that that's just a d*** shame because he is such a talented man. And I think he deserves all the credit in the world. Now, other two directors, it's really a toss up. I have several honorable mentions

@Taylor HERZOG!!!

And I mean, the breadth of his work is astounding I still have not seen all of his films, and I hope I get to before I die because I really want to. But it's hard for me to even pick a favorite just of his work. So thanks for asking. Mentioning him. It makes me want to just like, go and watch one of his films right now

There are so many great fantastic directors. And I'm glad this got a great response. Hopefully it'll get more feedback. If you think of any other directors you love, please throw them down here. Thanks again. Bye

such a difficult question

I would say Ryan Johnson and then the other two directors, I think whose body of work is really good and no one's mentioned before, I'm going to say Pete Doctor and Hayao Miyazaki. And I just think as filmmakers, they've been able to again take really interesting stories and just translate them to the screen with a visual flair that is delightful to people of all ages. This is

Brilliant storyteller and great filmmaker. Ridley Scott. Love me. Ridley Scott scifi films are just amazing. So there's the list. And there's many more. But that's my finale. Bye

Kurosawa the GOAT

So I'm just as big of a fan of his sort of contemporary work. In fact, my favorite movie of his is High and Low, which I think is just unbelievable, incredible, incredible movie. I can barely even begin to describe the ways in which I love it. Kurosawa is just simply the man. I think there's a reason why he was held in such high regard by so many of those great American filmmakers in the 70s and 80s
