article image placeholderSlashers
You see a lot more of those now they're very popular. But I'm an old school cat, and my love of horror stemmed from slasher films, probably because I grew up with them. But let whats your favorite sub genre of is in horror. I'm interested to know and tell me why

Talking horror films: What is your favorite sub genre of horror? What fascinates you about this particular style?

Gothic Horror- Coppola's Dracula, Haunting of Hill house, The shining

So my favorite under the list would be Dracula, Count Dracula, the version by Francis Ford Coppola, and among the recent ones, I loved the haunting of Hill House and Blimeyna, both adaptations of Shirley Jackson novels. And I would even say that to a certain extent, Steven King's Shining would also come under Gothic horror because there are a lot of elements of your typical Gothic horror in the book as well as the movie

Hey, Neal, that's an awesome question. And it brought back some good memories of movies I used to watch for The Thrill Factor, as well as The Adrenaline. You know, I like slasher films, too, and enjoyed watching Jason Versus Freddie and the Movie. I Know what you did last summer as well as Scream. These are the ones that come to mind off the top of my head. I'm sure there are quite a few

Give me that cosmic/body horror all day long...

Neil, my friend, you are speaking my language here. I love horror movies. I've always loved horror movies, and, you know, growing up as the kid that was into the darker stuff. These were films that I always sort of gravitated towards, even when my friends were putting themselves as far away from the sort of content as possible. Now I have slightly different answers to some of the things brought up here

@NamelessJournal

Hi name is Journal. Thanks for the reply. Gothic horror. Yeah, that's a good one. That's a very popular sub genre of horror. And when I think of Gothic, I think of the classic Sixties Hammer film with Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee. To me, that personifies, the Gothic element of horror with The Curse of Dracula in that series. Really scary stuff

Kind of was the reboot of slasher films for the 90s, and it's a fantastic series, and it's the first that kind of was self aware. It was kind of a parody of itself, which I always thought was fantastic. And West Craven, I believe, did that purposely. And I know what you did last summer. Yeah, I enjoyed those. I enjoyed the Urban Legends and all those kind of 90s revamped horror films with slasher elements. I thought they were entertaining

@Taylor

What's up, Taylor? It sounds like you're an all around horror fanatic, and you bring up a lot of good subgenres here. I got to be honest, I've never heard of that term cosmic body horror a new one for me, but it sounds very similar to science fiction classic alien horror films. You mentioned The Thing, which is, for one, a masterpiece. Two, one of my favorite horror films of all time

And it's interesting that you bring up Darren Aronovsky because while he's not traditionally a horror director, I do think that he's pretty well versed at how to induce those feelings of horror in you when you're watching his movies. He has this really strange way of making you feel like you're losing your mind. And it's unsettling for so many reasons. And Black Swan is a movie that I remember vividly. I can tell you exactly where I saw it

@Taylor

Yeah. Taylor, I completely understand now when you say Color Out of Space, what you mean by cosmic body horror films? I get it now. And those are some free, Reeky horror films where the body morphs and kind of decays and gets some kind of disease or an alien takes over and Color Out Of Space was a fantastic film. And Nic Cage was absolutely insane in it. So I completely get you. Yeah. Black Swan is probably one of my favorite films
