Social Media Sabbaticals

article image placeholderUploaded by @MsColes77
And so you're being inundated with so much information that it can be overwhelming. It can be overwhelming to your mind, it can be overwhelming to your heart. And so sometimes you just need a break. Sometimes you just need to step away from all of the busyness of the social media sphere and just take time to decompress a bit and to shift your focus on things that are less stressful and that are less overwhelming. Also, it can be physically taxing to be on social media

How often do you step away from social media?

As far as, like, a full sabbatical, I've been off Facebook for like, I don't know, a year now, maybe because I just couldn't handle the negativity. Facebook and Twitter are like, the two most negative for me. I found them to be the most draining, the most controversial, the most combative. I do go on Instagram daily, and I'm obviously on Swell every single day except for Sundays. So I do a complete, total refresh on Sundays

I've seen some wonderful videos giving great information, so I think there is some value to it. Snapchat I've just never gotten into. To me, it just seems kind of juvenile. I don't know, it seems kind of juvenile, but I have one. I just don't ever use it. And Twitter I use primarily for news. If I want to keep up with news, if I want to keep up what's going on in the world, I'll go to Twitter

Hi there. Yes, I completely agree. For sure, 100%. I myself, I have what do I have? I have Snapchat, I have Twitter, I have Instagram, but I don't post. I used to be fairly active on Twitter, Snapchat a little bit, and Instagram was the one where I really didn't post, but, you know, I was always watching. But lately I said to myself, you have to step away

But now that outdoors is available again, it's like some folks just aren't ready to go back out there. They just become content with their screens, their phones and communicating that way. And so, yes, we need to break free of the addiction to social media and get back out there in the real world. Because at one point in time, we didn't have a choice but to get out in the real world

But when you're just scrolling every second of the day, it's just not productive. It's important that we stimulate our minds in ways that actually uplift us. Of course, we all have our guilty pleasure, but balance. Balance, baby, balance

Hello. The best advice someone gave to me was to create a social media schedule. And when he shared this with me, he said, you know what, you can consider because I had hired a social media manager and it just it was not a pleasant experience for me. And he is 20 years in the business of marketing his business on social media and has been very successful. And he said, I don't even have a social media manager

I don't know if people choose YouTube as a social media or not. I mean, you can see a lot of stuff off of social media on YouTube, but I tend to watch videos and listen to audiobooks and things like that. So I don't know if I'm counting YouTube, but I will say that because I spent so much time Facebook being number one, aside from then, it would be like Instagram and TikTok for hours

I don't I don't want to feel like, well, I need to do videos for TikTok, I need to do pictures for Instagram and I need to do posts for Facebook. And it's like, gosh, if you're going to keep that kind of stuff up, you really do need a social media manager if you're on all the platforms all the time

They know it's tough to stay away from social media when so much of what you need is on social media. So, yeah, I totally feel you on everything you said, and thank you so much for your input
