Dentist Office says no bonnets, house shoes or pajama pants and the people are angry!

article image placeholderUploaded by @MsColes77
See, Dr. Sutton is asking that her patients don't wear clothes that they sleep in to her office. I think that's reasonable. I think that's reasonable. The thing is, as a culture in general, what has happened to our standard? There used to be a time, I remember seeing pictures of families in the when they would go to the grocery store. Everybody is looking neat. They're wearing neat pants and shirts, and everybody's hair is neat

Why do dress codes upset people?

This well reminds me of a situation a few years ago. The mother of my son asked me, is it possible that I can take off from work to come with her to her son's school? She has another child from a previous relationship, and he's a teenager, and he's, like, out of control

It's a sign that says you can't come in here with just a t shirt and sandals. You have to be fully dressed, and that's understandable. So the number one thing is it's about rules and following rules, so can't go against that. And number two, when it comes to our people, we've always been about looks and appearances, because in a way, it tells the story about the person

But a lot of people just don't know. My mother stressed a hair bonnet and hair rollers. Really, back in the day was a scarf that is for the bed. You wear that to bed so that when you get up and go out in front of people, you look good. So why would you wear the hair stuff outside? My mama told me that. So to be believe it or not, a lot of these people, it's not personal style. No one ever told them

And so I think it's important, especially for a school meeting, that you go looking like you're there to represent your child's best interest. I think that's very important. Does that require you being super dressed up? No, but we can look decent. People act like there's no medium between looking busted and looking super dressy, like there's no middle ground or something. Like there's plenty of middle ground between looking busted and then looking super classy

But I will say this, even as far as church attire, I go to a diverse church, and I don't dress up because I'm on stage singing every Sunday. We move around a lot, and so I wear jeans on Sundays, but I do look neat and presentable when I'm at church. So the whole idea of come as you are are we getting carried away with the come as you are?

I mean, we see that the bonnet just seems to travel well with everybody, and yet we're worried about people not respecting us, but we don't respect ourselves. You can't tell me. And see, the thing is, we think that there's no middle ground between looking busted and then looking high class, but there's so much middle ground there

It's a style to wear those house shoes. They got the little cute little slippers. I'm not going to do it. I don't allow my daughter to do it. But some kids do do it. In the field that I work in, I actually have a lot of children who do come to the office in pajamas. They do come in their slippers. Now, most of the time their head is done because they're not going to go out that way

She's just saying, hey, look decent when you come in here. And that goes for our schoolchildren. That goes for the grocery store. It goes for professionals in the office place. I used to work with girls in the office that dress like they just came from the club. No respect for the environment. I think sometimes we just have to respect the environment that we're in, even if there's not a clear cut dress code. But thank you so much for chiming in

So I was down there with them on the floor but this morning I knew what service was going to be. I kind of figured what service is going to be like today. So I wore a long skirt. But we also have, like, sheets that we can put over people if they have on shorter skirts or whatever. But I do believe that you should be comfortable when you go to church. I don't subscribe to the whole suit and hat thing. I don't subscribe to that

And these kids come to school looking any kind of way, like, with their hair uncomed, their clothes, be looking all crazy, look like they just rolled up out of bed and came on into school. Why? You know what I'm saying? Because nobody is stopping them. Nobody is telling them anything different. And so applaud any business, any establishment, any parents that hold up the standard and like, no, when you go outside, you're going to look presentable

And they made sure that dress was ironed and they made sure that dress looked presentable, even if it was the only dress they had to wear on Sunday. They made sure that that one dress, that if there were any holes, they fill up the coles in it. They made sure that it was clean and pressed. And that's just something that culturally speaking, not just culturally. When I talk about I'm not talking about just our race, but I'm just talking about as a society

Like I was looking at like shows like the bridgerton, right, show where they show about the Victorian area where they wore corsets all the time and the long skirts and the hoops underneath to make their skirts stand out and then to look at that. And I'm not saying wear that because I don't like all that stuff either. But I'm saying to go from that to where we are now, right, it's just so lax now

You says, this was great. It really was, as usual, honestly. And when you brought up the whole Walmart thing, I laughed because I thought about it before you even said it. And once you said it at the end, I started dying. Because I was like, Yep, she got me. She called me out. Cause I won't lie, I've I've definitely gone to Walmart, and I bought it before. I won't hold you

One day I went and I ordered my bread pudding to go, and in walked three white men, and they had on flip flops and these crinkly khaki pants that weren't even ironed and just these regular T shirts. And they welcomed those three white men. Oh, come on in. We have a table available. Blob. Would you like a seat near the window? Would you like a seat here? And they sat them

Because pajamas to me, is like, lounging. And you're at a whole entire appointment, and you coles in and lounging bed clothes. I don't even know, as a physician, if you groomed yourself because you did not take the time to dress yourself appropriately. So we're going to dismiss what they probably feel like. Well, I'm comfortable. No, it's not about comfortability. It's about having dignity. And I do not disagree with her
