Are Photo Filters Masking Our Insecurities?

article image placeholderUploaded by @MsColes77
Good morning, Spellcast family. May the fourth be with you today. I wanted to come on here really quickly and talk about photo filters. I know that back in the day when photo filters first became an option with your photos, that photo filters were pretty limited. It was about tinting, shading, enhancing brightening. That's pretty much the stent of photo filters for people with smartphones

Here I is right. Just lay it all out there. So I do feel so bad for the younger women that pretty much all they've known is filters. And yeah, I see some women that everything they post is a filter. I can tell it's a filter because I know them in real life. And I'm like, I wish they felt as if they didn't have to do that. But good conversation station as usual. Take care

Hello. And real quick, I'll add that my picture here on the Swell cast is from a professional photo shoot. So I was not only made up, but I was also she did her thing with the lighting and whatever retouches she may have done it's me, but it's also a very professional photo shoot

Another place where I find filters to be misleading is on dating apps when everyone's just trying to be as amazing and visually appealing as they can with awesome profiles and awesome pictures. And to the point that I've been flabbergasted that when I met someone in person after matching with them on an app and I met them and the pictures on the app were so filtered that the person I met in real life seemed to be a completely different person. It is ridiculous

She was like, I'm going on just like this. And I don't think you all know how beautiful you are. I know you got an idea how you want to look, but I don't think you all know how beautiful you are when it comes down to it. But I'm going to tell you this. You know how I feel about the instagram 19 year old telling me if I would have gave her this type of love, she would have gave it back

What the????

Okay, so I consider myself pretty technically savvy. I do a lot with social media. I've run several social media businesses in the past, and I still run social media businesses to this day. I have to be honest, you just totally rocked my world right now. I had no idea there were actual filters and stuff that you could do that change your actual features. Like, what the heck? Who does that? I don't know. Did even know it was a thing

And if I can share that, I don't know, I think it would be really cool if we could share the notion of the celebration of every kind of selfie, you know, with or without filters, perfect angle, lighting, you know, beautiful or worse lighting, worst angle silliness or Ugliness or whatever descriptor we want to use. Anyway, I I did the double dog daria again

Hey, SIS, thank you so much for responding. I agree with you. Younger women nowadays, all they know are filters. I remember when filters first became a thing, especially with Snapchat, women would post all these weird Snapchat filter photos, and I could tell that this made them feel better about themselves. But when do we embrace the natural photo? And I know I'm guilty of that, too, but when do we embrace the natural photo? When do we embrace our natural beauty?

@geo_rhymes

The standard is to stay true to yourself and to embrace your natural beauty and your personal style. And when we do that, that confidence comes forth. When we embrace who we are, when we accept who we are, that confidence does come forth. Confidence doesn't come from filters. That's false confidence. A filter is not going to make you feel beautiful, because that's not the reality of who you are. The reality of who you are is who you see in the mirror every day

Hey, Ms. Flora. Your picture is absolutely beautiful. You are a beautiful woman. As far as apps for filters, there's different ones. I've used one called PixArt, they have one called Lenza, and there are a few more out there. Those are the only two that I've ever used. There may be more out there. I'm sure there are tons more out there. And even on your phone itself, your phone itself has filters

It's nice to know that my natural beauty is acceptable and it is beautiful to someone and that I don't need to doctor it up, doll it up, any of that stuff in order to be accepted. So thank you so much for chiming in

And I think sometimes that women probably feel like that when they post any photo, that somebody's going to say something about the lighting, oh, the lighting is bad, the angles are bad. My makeup doesn't look right. Oh my gosh, my eyebrows don't look good. And all these different things that people probably aren't saying, but at the same time, people probably will say that

And we're just going to have to accept that, hey, I'm not perfect, but I love me and I accept me, and that's what's most important. Thank you so much for chiming in

But I used to always feel insecure if I didn't wear high heels because I'm short. I'm only five two. I would so much rather wear, like, a pair of ballet flats or a pair of Converse. Those are my things. That's who I am. That's my gig, right? But I always wanted to be like everyone else. Of all the other girls, I always wear high heels. I always look pretty

What I like about this app is that you can hear people talk and you can hear the inflection on their voice. It's pretty hard to hide that, but I'm sure some people do anyway

Hey, I wanted to give a piggyback on what you stated fire as Insecurities and makeup and also in filters. I am a woman who use both. I wear makeup and I use filters on Facebook and Instagram and Snapchat. Do I use them all the time? No, I'm okay with my skin. Without the makeup? Yes, because I do not wear makeup all the time. But sometimes you do want to enhance. You want to just pop your stuff. Sometimes you do a little extra

Even in real life. We wear a filter often. A filter where we smile in spite of things or where we are afraid to. Mike even though we are feeling inwardly happy. And so, yeah, we definitely filter a lot of our lives. And so, yeah, we filter our emotions as well. Thank you so much for responding

But I don't get up each day and wear makeup. I do have a friend that puts on a face of makeup every day, and she doesn't really go anywhere. She just likes to be made up. That's part of her feeling like she's ready for the day. So she goes through a whole lot more makeup than I do. But, yeah, it's to be an enhancer. Absolutely. Thank you so much

Yes, absolutely!

Like the saying, Go give it to Mikey, he'll eat it. I was, Michelle, give it to Michelle, she'll eat it. Then I developed an eating disorder, so to speak, to where I'm eating a lot, and it didn't become bad, but I was constantly eating, trying to gain weight, and I never gained weight, and I was grateful for that, but it took me a long time to accept me and my body

We know how to contour your nose. We know how to make your cheeks look smaller. We know how to do all these things to make you look more desirable in the public eye. So it's quite unfortunate, but I'm glad that you have reached a place of acceptance and just being comfortable

Your fingerprints will never change. Some things will never change again. Beauty is within. I feel that I am who I am. You should feel that you are who you are and that nothing's going to change. That always nice conversing with you. You have a blessed Friday and hope to hear from you soon. Bye

Hello, Patrick. Thank you so much for chiming in, and thank you for the wonderful compliments. Yes, sometimes the filters can get out of hand, where people start adding tons of filters. And even the makeup, the transformative makeup tutorials, where people are five to six shades lighter than they normally are. And I agree with you, we should be able to celebrate our own natural beauty
