Paperback books vs. Audiobooks

article image placeholderUploaded by @MsColes77
Hastwell cast family. I hope you're having a wonderful Thursday afternoon. So I was having a conversation earlier and we were discussing paperback books versus audiobooks, and I was saying that I am a fan and always will be a fan of the paperback book. There's just something about holding a book in your hands

You. Oh, man, this subject is so near and dear to my own heart. I am team paper book all the way. Like, I love libraries. I love bookstores when I need to find some peace and some solace. If I'm not outside in nature, check the local bookstore or the local library, because that's where I'm at. I love the smell of books. I love the feel of books. I love being able to dog ear the pages that I like

It's. I and team hardback paperback. Look hard down. Look. I I like like you said, I like holding it, like smelling it. I like feeling it. I love I do like those the experience of cracking open up a new book and Indian, I'm really add. And so I cannot listen to a book for very long without zoning out

All right. You name the bookstore. Name the day and time. I'll be there. Let's play a game. We walk through the bookstore, and when we say stop, you have to pick out the book. Turn to page 30 and read the first sentence. And that would be it's like book, bad lips. But instead of picking out, like, noun verb, it's just totally random. So it's random, book, mad lips

Hi, Tanya. This is really interesting that you bring this up. I had a discussion about this a few weeks ago at work because a lot of times when I come to work, I usually have a book with me. And that's how the conversation started, because someone mentioned that books are becoming extinct. So book. At that point, a conversation ensued for Moe

It's like I can just give you the book and you can cherish it and keep it and make it your own. I love that. It just brings me joy. Like, I'm smiling ear to ear just thinking about it right now, because I just love books so much. So I hope they never go away. And you keep collecting books. I hope that they never, ever go away

But another thing about it is, after a while, I started Mike in the narrators, like George Goodell. I think it's goodell. George Goodell. He's a legend. And he's like the main character for one of my favorite characters and Mitch Rap. And I've been up through all the series, and I didn't feel like I was wasting money because I was enjoying myself. But I was happy when I found out that a lot of the books that I like were on YouTube

And then we'll just swell our responses. We'll get a whole bunch of people in on it. I love it. Let's do it. Tell me when and where. Well, we'll figure out the when. Let's figure out the where first. Do you have Barnes and Noble near you? And let's make it happen. If you don't, then here's what we're going to do

Paper, books, ebooks, audiobooks. The other thing I tend to use audiobooks more for is stuff that's more like I'd say entertainment, like horror stuff or fiction. If it's a nonfiction book that I'm trying to actually learn stuff from, like self help stuff or business success, all that kind of thing, I tend to go more hard copy book. There's a whole system. The author Ryan Holiday kind of jacked it from the author Robert Green

It's going in completely blind. It's kind of like seen at bookstores. It's usually more hole in the wall type places. We'll do a blind date with the book where they cover it up and just say some notable things about it or like themes. Same concept as that

You. How have I never, ever heard of this before? Mike? I love books. I love bookstores. I'm so excited for this. Yes. Can we please add this to our mix of what we're doing here? And I've never heard of this mike blind date with a book. And I don't know, I've never even seen it advertised, like, in my town or any of my bookstores

And Jonathan Maybury, he's really good with that, the formulas and the zombies and all that kind of stuff. And I read an article one time where they got all the authors together and they just let them brainstorm. This is the government now. Let them brainstorm and come up with the craziest scenario they can come up with. So that way we could defend ourselves, mike against it. And that's true, 100% true. I think it was on 60 Minutes or something

I definitely like shows and all that in movies. I think the whole Born trilogy kind of cracked that open for me. I there's two that I've seen lately that are based on books that you might check out. One is on Netflix. It was called Night Agent and the other was on Apple TV called Slow Horses

So either it goes behind a bit too much, or it doesn't go behind to the point that I wanted to, and it ended up being a very disappointing experience. Well, so the thing is, at the end of the day, I'm not able to left or a right stand over here. But I suppose if I had no option and I had to choose for my life, then I choose paperback

So I was one of the people who was one of the navigators to I'm sorry, explorers of ebooks. Right? Because Oprah, right, she's got all her books in a tablet. So I was like, yeah, I have an iPad. I'm going to get the Barnes and Noble Nook and App. And I was like, okay, this is great. And it really was because it allowed me to read multiple books at one time

I love bookstores, I love libraries. I have two very large bookshelves in my office that are just loaded with books and there's an entire section of books that I just have not read and they're there because I bought them at a bookstore. I bought them at a library sale for dirt cheap and I know I'm going to want to read that someday and unfortunately, there's only so much time of the day, so that's why I have such a large collection of unread books

I don't have poetry books, so I don't really know how that would work. But I do agree as far as the poetry, and I also agree with the audiobooks. When you are reading something that's very deep, that's very detailed

And like you said, life just sometimes keeps us from being able to sit down and physically read a book when you have children, when you have other life responsibilities. And so audiobooks, I believe, are helpful, and I believe they certainly have their place. I think that they probably have even allowed people to become quote unquote, readers that probably weren't readers before because they didn't want to pick up a book or they didn't feel like picking up a book

They want to come up and they see the title or they see the front cover of the book, and they're just like, I want to know more about this book and this author and the topic and the subject. Matter and all that stuff. And they're more inclined to bother you than to leave you alone when you have a book in your hand. And so I know me, when I see someone reading a book, I know that that's a Do Not disturb sign right there
@vanessaragains

I love to highlight and take notes in the page margins! 📖💘

So when it's an audiobook or when it's even, I guess sometimes on Kindle, like the PDF version of the ebooks, you can actually highlight them now, but I still like that physically taking a pen and my highlighter and I make notes on the edges and I highlight. That's been a huge reason why I like the physical book versus paying for the ebook version, especially when it comes to textbooks and things like that. Awesome subject. Loved chiming in and loved your discussion points
