International Films - What is your favorite?

article image placeholderAkira Kurosawa - Ran
I've been on an Akira Kurosawa kick, and I wanted to ask this community a question, could you recommend to me a fantastic film from your country? I would like to think that we could get a really awesome dialogue here, going about some fantastic films and honestly catalogue them in a way that we can always go back to. And we have this perpetual list of great movies to watch

So I'm gonna recommend two pretty basic ones, kind of generic but good. So I'm half German. And one of the movies I want to recommend is called Or The Life of the Others, I think is the title in English. And it's basically about East Germany and life there and how the Communist Party there was spying on the citizens. And then the second one is called Devil The Wave, and it's about how an extremist group can form

A Wednesday - #bollywood - @Neerja

Nelly, thank you for recommending The Lives of Others. It brought back memories of the movies. I saw it when it came out with English subtitles in Boston, but it ranks as one of my alltime favorite movies. Probably might have to make a top ten list. It will definitely be there. Taylor Highly recommend it. You should definitely check it out if you have not seen it already. And it also has one of the best last lines of any movie

It's very complex understated, very atmospheric and the music, the background music is amazing out of the world. It gives you goosebumps every time they kind of show. Okay. Mr and Mrs Iyer, Monsoon wedding, Black Friday

Hey, Taylor, my recommendations would be Mr. And Mrs. Ayer, a English movies has mostly in English. But, you know, there's this mattering of Hindi here and there it is about two days of communal rights and a very unlikely sort of a couple coming together, a photographer and traditional South Indian home maker and how they break through that experience. This is directed by Parana San, and it's definitely an interesting watch

Well, Taylor, you hit my soft spot in film. I'm not really big on foreign films. Not that I don't enjoy them. I just haven't seen many. But I came across a fantastic Con film that came out in 2000 called Nine Queens, about two Con artists that try to swindle a stamp collector by selling them counterfeit stamps called The Nine Queens
