Moment Mondays: Diaries from Kyiv - written by Sarah Berger

Helen was actually born in Ukraine but moved to the United States in 1988 because of the antisemitism at the time. But being a Jew in Ukraine is different now, Helen says. Quote, It's cool to be Jewish now my Gentile students go around with mug and Dove and necklaces and are trying to learn Hebrew

I've spoken. This is Nadine Epstein, and I'm the editorinchief of Moment, and I've been fortunate just enough to actually Zoom with Helen and hear some of her stories from Keith. And I think it's so important for us to listen to stories from people like Helen, letting us know what it's like to be in key than the rest of Ukraine today. Ukraine is a country. Actually, all four of my grandparents were born in what is now Ukraine

Thank you for sharing and putting this post out there. This morning I had Ukraine in my mind and I wrote a poem called A Small poem for children at Wartime in September court of Ukraine, of course, and just feeling that for some reason people have stopped talking about Ukraine and it's very saddening. But I wanted to say thank you for posting this. It's good to know that people are still worried about Ukraine and the children of Ukraine and the women and the men and everyone else in between

I'm not sure that people have stopped talking about Ukraine. I point out that the second in the series of updates from Helen In Cave is on Monday website, Momentmag.com. And I think it's particularly interesting that she's talking about designers, designers who once were preparing for a show and are now making helmets or camouflage outfits or nets or boots for the Ukrainian Army

It's great to hear all these voices talk about this. And whether we're reading it or listening to it or hearing it on the news, we're all trying to kind of get the sense of what's going on and hope our connection to these individuals, especially Helen, can build a bridge and build strength
