Facts or Fiction?

article image placeholderUploaded by @MHNmaven
If you post something to me or post something on social media and you're my friend and you have it's some outlandish, crazy out and you don't have anything to back that up, that is actual factual research data or any kind of factual data back behind it to state make that statement, then I'm not going to listen to you. In fact I might actually school you and here's the reason why. Because there's too much of this going on in the world today

Down with social media fiction being diplayed as fact!

A high school friend of mine and his wife lost their son last Friday. That would have been the 17th. It was a freak accident. He was out with his dog. He was heading back home from running his dog and something happened with his gas tank and his car exploded and it was on a country road. So when somebody came upon it, it was just in flames. So, yes, my friend's son passed in a tragic accident in one day

And that's why you and I and other people turn off the news. We turn off the stuff where this is going on. We limit our social media time. We don't go down the rabbit hole and look at the comments of something that has 256 comments. It's not because everybody's positive and congratulating them or appreciating them. It's usually somebody spewing a rumor or something with it. And it's so unfortunate and it is so not about humanity. It's about your own personal self

But there are things that people are exposing all the time in new documents and how do I know that that's the document for sure if I didn't go out there and get a copy of it myself and read it? So to your point too, with like science and stuff, science is kind of its own religion and that people who are science minded really believe that that is all that they are going to live off of is facts. I have a friend that's like that very much

So even merchants or whoever understand that people who are idolized in some way and have a fan base of their own, whatever they say or do, has an influence on people because there's like, this identity where they trust that person and accept what they say easily, a lot more easier and as fact. But then also, fans of celebrities and stuff, there's something that they idolize about that person so that they can relate to them or feel comforted in with that person

And that's why science, like you said, changes with their diagnosis and things like that, because it's always constantly moving, just like technology and different kinds of electronics. They're constantly changing too. We're in a constant changing environment, so I agree with that. But I'm talking more specifically with the fiction that is created just for someone's personal gain or for someone's personal psychological enhancement, if that makes sense. I don't know if that makes sense

Is it their experience or is it just their opinion? Is their opinion based on their experience or is it based on just something they saw on social media? There's the trick right there and whether it is actual experience. So it's your fact or is it just because your best friend posted it? So it must be true. There's a huge difference between that and that's kind of why I'm trying to get this conversation going

And search for the information. I mean, of course it's up to people whether they want to believe or not believe in something that's totally fine. But I just wanted to say that information most definitely is out there. And so I think the more you know, it kind of expands your mind and your perspective and your understanding. I definitely think it is important to seek knowledge

There are one or two, maybe three sources that I'll listen to sometimes, but for the most part, I very carefully qualify my news sources. Most of my news I get from trusted sources on the Internet or some other medium. If I'm going to share an article or a news article or something like that on Swell, I will definitely do my fact checking

I had a friend of 22 years that basically decided to unfriend me on all social media platforms and no longer be my friend based on a text message and saying that I had disdain all over it. And I'm like, what are you talking about? I was stating facts of certain things. What are you talking about? How can you read something like that through a text message? It's ridiculous. And why didn't you pick up a phone and call me? It's just oh, yeah

So thank you for keep saying information because it is the information. But again, the discernment needs to happen of whether this is more factual based on people's elevated experiences or if it is something that someone just made up because they want to be popular on social media. That's kind of what I was sort of getting at to the gist of it. But I guess I wasn't really explaining it correctly and sometimes I have a way of doing that and I hiccup when I'm saying things

And people who are not willing to entertain a conspiracy, if you will, or a side condition because they themselves haven't experienced it or haven't seen the research to validate it, it's difficult for me. I see it as closed mindedness in some aspects. So I was just kind of more speaking to that part of it. But yeah, I'm aware of a lot of the resources that are out there. But thank you

@Blind_Profit | Yes, all fact is subjective on the individual level vs collective. It is our right as free will creators. Great point! šŸ‘šŸ¾šŸ‘šŸ¾šŸ‘šŸ¾šŸ‘šŸ¾šŸ‘šŸ¾šŸ‘šŸ¾šŸ‘šŸ¾

So I think that's basically what we're all kind of getting at here in this discussion. I think maybe that might be safe to say. And what you were saying, if you identified as extraterrestrial this and that, I think that really, in that example, that would be your reality and what is real for you, but then it may not be somebody else's reality. They may not identify that way or whatever. So, yeah, I really appreciated this response

We just have to be careful and qualify our sources and avoid the dark side of the web. Basically. What is it that has made fact versus fiction so difficult? Well, throughout human history, including present day humans, have used propaganda as a political weapon. With today's artificial intelligence technology, it's very easy for any world government to manipulate facts. When people hear propaganda long enough, they start believing it to be the truth. Therefore, they don't know any better

@EricG

So in saying that educating upon the facts, fiction scenario or the truth or the propaganda, because you talk about propaganda 100% manipulation of data, propaganda is completely done all over the world and especially now more prevalent because of the internet and social media. So should we be educating people on this point and who should be educating people on this point and what should we doing? I have another weird thing to throw in here too

Fiction in the spirit of fact novels

Like another one that I like that I haven't read in a really long time was A Tank Abbott's Books Before the Cage or something like that, that was pretty good. So stuff like that. Like John Fonte, Hubert Selby Jr. So stuff that has like, a really hard edge that you can tell the person was just made to do this. That's the type of novels that I like to buy. The hardcore truth is all right, but I hate ghost writers

And I am taking it that you don't have that job anymore, because I know that was very stressful, intense and not good, and you were looking to get away from it. So, definitely loving this part of you, this passion of writing. And I am so excited to see such great success from you from doing this. So thank you so much for taking the time to share and give us all an insight in what's going on with you, because that is fantastic
