Living with Fibromyalgia a stream of consciousness conversation

article image placeholderUploaded by @merkabah74
Worked my way up to being a manager as a nurse and being over entire buildings and having all that responsibility and being on call twenty four seven and then going back to school and getting my master's degree. And then at the end of all of it, turns out I developed this nerve disease and can't use any of it and can't even work. So this has been an ego trip

I compare it to a 15 year old, someone who doesn't think there's any consequences and can just eat whatever they want. I'm overweight and like I said, I'm approaching 50, so I deal with chronic pain and I've got a series of back problems, so I knew I had to do something serious. So I looked at my diet first and I started cutting out sugars and fats. And when I really seriously looked at my diet and people, I encourage you to do this

And the main thing is following that, because one gets so addicted to the sugar and processed foods and whatever we've been eating for ages, that following that regimen, the whole lifestyle, it's all about neuroplasticity. We are in that rigid state, so opening ourselves up, releasing those knots requires a h*** lot of work. It's like getting a massage done and relaxing your whole body. And we don't realize how much blockages there are anyways

And you're right, it does make a difference. Before reiki, I had a lot more trouble managing my pain and a lot more trouble managing my emotions. Coming from childhood trauma and just trauma of society in general, I think I held a lot of stuff in and tried to look strong because that's what I was taught to do, and that's kind of what society expects of us. And there's a point in your body where you can no longer hold on to

Hi. Thank you so much for responding. And I'm so glad to hear that you're Reiki master and you went through awakening and it is a blessing and a curse. Unfortunately, we can't get everything in life, and I hope I'm making sense. But mostly light workers or people who are on this path, we are wounded healers, and for most of us, it's hard to keep that balance

I just think all of these practices are really powerful tools to help better regulate our nervous system in a society that really profits off of our nervous system dysfunction and keeps us in perpetual states of burnout and chronic stress and anxiety. And it's it's really sad that this is just really sad that this is the expectation in our society to live like this, and it's really not sustainable. So thanks for bringing this up. I look forward to hearing more about your story and journey

So let's fast forward now to present day, where I'm dealing with lots of different doctors and their opinions. And of course, they've all gone to Western Medical School, and they want to offer me a ton of different medications, and they are positive I should take all these medications. And if I don't, then I must not want to get well. So when I talk to them about the things that I'm doing, I'm doing yoga as well

I've been on and on and off social media, but social media has a lot of there's a lot of good things about it and there's a lot of really bad things about it. So you've got to take it for what it is and you can't really invest your personal energy into it because there's so many people on social media that aren't where you're at and that enjoy arguing and enjoy that lower level energy that you're probably beyond by this point, right?

I absolutely agree with you on all accounts, Phyllis. I think one thing that our modern medical system has not reckoned with yet is finding a better balance between the science of medicine, the biomedicine, so to speak, and the spirituality healing side of medicine. And I look at this completely differently because I grew up as a pastor's kid. My dad is a minister, my mom is a social worker. So, you know, both of my parents are in the helping profession
