The Pricing Puzzle of Dating Apps

article image placeholderFree Dinners, not Lunches: The Pricing Puzzle of Dating Apps
And so only after a bit of a shakeout did companies restart charging and monetizing properly again. And the revenue went up and the versions went up, the prices went up, and we're back where we were 15 years ago. So it took a while for that transition. And now one has to ask what's next? What could happen? Is it going to remain premium, or are these larger dating apps gradually going to move towards charging a membership again?

Whereas if you look at in Western countries where of course this is a lot more common and of course not frowned upon as much. A .1 of my readers brought up. Which I thought was quite interesting. Is that possibly these companies like Hinged in the Bumble. They're also relying not just on people who want to use the app Finding True Love and then sort of deleting it. Which brings up the conundrum that I wrote about

The incentive would be for the app to be able to celebrate not just a statistic, but an entire well told story using other features like video and audio and that liking feature where you're saying, I love that these people have been dating for six years and you become a fan of a couple that met on the app. And then, of course, the ultimate prize would be to be chosen by had the real life producers to be featured on a reality TV show where the relationship is challenged

I don't think that's really common for a lot of people in younger generations and like my generation, I'm not saying it doesn't happen at all, but I feel like that ideal is becoming less and less of a reality. Dating apps are just convenient and easy and you have such a wide variety of people to choose from and so many options. It's really easy to just start a conversation with someone you just matched with and then, oh, that didn't work out
