Should Jordan Peterson Have Been Banned From Twitter Over His Transsexual Related Remarks

article image placeholderTwitter Ban
If in two minds, before seeing his video, I am in one mind, after seeing his statement, he should be more tolerant and let people be as they will be, if indeed they do no harm to others. I'd love to hear your thoughts

That is also to say that they should be doing a lot more. And I think it's pretty heinous that the only comments that seem to be dealt with are ones that are coming from high profile users. But that is an entirely other story. I guess. We know that that's been a problem with Twitter and other platforms for a really long time. Personally, I think that Jordan Peterson is a what would you call him? A scumbag

People say things I don't like all the time, and that's the way life is. So it's at least in America, that's where it's supposed to be. You're supposed to have freedom of speech. And if people don't like it, they don't have to listen to it. They can leave

The platform giveth and the platform taketh away

Hi, Mark. Thank you for starting this conversation. I was not a big follower, a fan of John Peterson, generally aware of who he is, but never really cared too much about him till this controversy has septate. And then my initial reaction was very similar to yours, which is the Twitter team being triggered, happy to ask him to leave, but then after looking at the video, which you shared, kind of understand the full context. I think the decision makes a lot more sense

But I always like to listen to different type of perspectives and the video you posted seems very out of character. You can clearly see that his test, some of the things he's saying is very provocative can be highly offensive. It is very offensive. But should he be banned from Twitter? I don't think so

What are these influencers really passionate about?

And obviously if it's a large outpour of haters. Now, could he take this momentum to trump's Truth Social? Sure, he can go there. He has enough big of a following. They will go there. He can go to YouTube, he could go wherever. H***, he could start his own TV show. But the fact that Twitter ban him definitely is going to be the ire of his topics from now on

So I feel very strongly that we are still a society that creates platforms that are driven by human civility and the ability to say yes or no and to take away privileges based on a moral compass. And it makes me proud that we can still be people that can not be afraid to have that moral compass and act upon it. Yeah, that's my thought. And I really appreciate this conversation a lot. Thank you. Bye

You can't say s*** to anybody about anything. You can't feel one way about anything without somebody's feelings getting hurt about it. You can't express how you feel about something without somebody getting so angry that they threaten violence against you. Everybody is feeling something on such a hiding level that is just like, why do we even talk anymore? When did we become so soft as a society? I really don't understand it. So I hate talking about this. It's draining

My POV as a trans person

Now, for those of you who have watched his response video to the tweet that he originally posted, the tweet was for reference. And he goes over this in the video. Remember when pride was a sin and Ellen Page just had her breast removed by a criminal physician?

@larandle softness

We have a story that a woman would not become a mass shooter and so he used that to his advantage. What does that say about our culture? I think it says a lot of things and I think that we need a lot more softness, a lot more empathy, and a lot more systems that care for everyone. If we are ever going to grow into becoming a more peaceful and equitable nation for everyone

The trans world has a tendency to feel as if other people have to accept the things that they even for me, is not even about it's about respecting just respecting people and the decisions that they make in the way that they want to live. Right? We don't have to necessarily like it. And I think that a lot of the trans people that I've met get offended if you don't like the decisions that they make. And it's like that's not how the world works

So when Jordan Peterson lays out one of his transphobic, condescending rants, there are people in this country who will take those statements and boil it down to something more digestible. They'll boil it down to statements like, women have a uterus and men have a p****. All the surgeries in the world aren't going to make you into a real woman, a full fledged woman

But the point is, yeah, the grandstanding of people saying that this is a real big state step in Twitter's ability to create a culture by canceling or not canceling people is really not the point, is it?

I don't think you should have been banned from Twitter. You know, the thing about hate speech, right, is who gets to decide what's hate and what's not? You know, one group of people. Two groups of people. Probably not. One person. Two people, 100 people. Probably not. It's a slippery slope. Free speech is free speech. It is free or tonight. So that's it?

And whenever we talk about free speech on social media, it always baffles me, because free speech isn't being taken away. Free speech is the ability to freely speak your mind, and that is not restricted to one social media platform, particularly a private entity. It's pretty clear that Jordan Peterson violated the community guidelines. If you could violate the community guidelines, it clearly states that there can be restrictions on your account, and that's what's happened
