You have to run away to the circus

And I know that sounds really simple, but when you take a good, hard look at the work that gets shared most of the time, it's abundantly clear that far too many people are on autopilot making what they think they should. And the result is, of course, some kind of paint by numbers, stuff that has no heart and no soul

We want friction, but we want momentum. And I really appreciate the overarching message of just having this internal conversation with yourself that can bring you some kind of balance, so that when the external world throws things in your path, you don't completely get derailed. And I think what you're offering is that this is a constant practice, and it takes a certain amount of surrendering, as you say, to the instability of creating art, which is what makes art so beautiful

Thank you for being curious!

Db. What a cool, inspirational message to get back. Thank you so much for listening and being curious enough to check out the site. Glad I recently updated a couple of Pardes of the site too. You're making me feel like that was a smart thing to do. It's a lot to unpack. First of all, you have to send me a link to your music, so I need to put a voice with the person or whatever you play or sing or whatever you do

I just did the backup for a Wonderful Man Named Ivanka, who's releasing I think it's a 30 year retrospective on a band called National Wake, which was the first integrated band in South Africa. And I had a chance to do backup vocals for his album. And that's my last project I've been working on the past couple of weeks. But who knows is in the future. But I will give you my link to my website, which has a link to various music projects

Hey, Davy, just saw this message. It's really amazing thing to wake up to and hear someone say, I really appreciate it. I Dove into your band camp and your stuff comes from a really great place. I mean, I understand why some of it is old and it takes a lot of courage to leave that stuff up by. I give you my respect

And, yes, there's a lot of risk. I love this idea of the circus freak willingly being the circus freak and surrendering to the process as a lifelong journey because that's truly what it is. And you know it when you're there and when you're feeling it. And I think sometimes it's possible to get scared off. But I think we realize the rewards of really tapping into who we are when we are there in that creative process. So anyway, thank you for your thoughts

I had a pretty major run of about a year and a half placed in one category in 25 festivals. I didn't go to all of them, but I was in Rome and Spain and New York and Mexico, and the indie film community is freakishly conservative and narrow minded and just not at all. I went to film school thinking I'd make movies like Paris, Texas
