Smiling in Tiger Pataudi's Company

article image placeholderUploaded by @MahaanMusings
Friend. My first El Pass of 2023 is dedicated to the memory of late Mansour Ali Khan Petadi. This is his birthday today and I pay my humble tribute to my first cricketing hero and the great saviour of Indian cricket. I have a long list of cricketers whom I have admired for their extraordinary skills, ranging from Rumor Kanye to Dexter Ian Chapel to Westley Hall gaffe, sobers and shame bond. In fact, my veneration extends to people like Don Bradman, Frank Worl, Keith Miller and Jack Hobbs too

So I didn't really dig deep into the history of Patauri. And I think his father is well played cricket for a couple of counties and the country as well. From the few interviews I've seen of him, it seems like he was a class apart. Right? And I think in this day and age, cricketers play cricket for a variety of reasons and the financial component wasn't as strong back then because players weren't paid as well. So it was truly for the love of the game

I always thought that he must have been a gentleman to the core. And you have, by sharing your experience, validated that. So very, very nice to hear it. And thank you for sharing this here on Swell in your inimitable style

And it is a fact that people like Eknar Sulkar Rabidali Venkatraghwan Suburu Taha Rahmakandesai, Gundapa Viswanathi they were all kind of supported and brought into the team and many against the reservations of the selectors. And mind you, when Vishy failed in his debut innings against Australia in 169 at Kanpur, the selection committee chairman Vijay Merchant condemned the selection. And yet the majestic unbeaten century by which she in the second innings not just saved the test match but also shut up all the critics of Taika Pataudi

Sharmila herself confesses that she was quite immature when she got married, but it was his understanding, his compassion and his overall understanding of life that made her become better sedate and mature. And all the marriages that you normally see of celebrated women, the men are normally insecure. But this was not so in the case of pataude. He was a complete man
