Rudeness,…

article image placeholderUploaded by @lwatsonjr
Rudeness is a lack of courtesy or being without manners. And I find this phrase, this term, quite troubling these days. I'm not sure if rudeness has become obscured by being politically correct or definitively correct. The challenge that I have to rudeness is that rudeness has now entered the realm of ambiguity. When we talk about what it is to be rude, we no longer are talking about staple or static conditions and characteristics of an interaction between one person and another, or one person and many people

What does being RUDE really mean? Is this a catch-all? How is rudeness defined for you?

🤔

But at the same time, we have bred a culture where being rude is kind of just the norm for like when you go on the Internet, it's normalized behavior. That not too much people really bat an eye about it's very common. I'm trying to think of that instance where let's say Andrew Tate, I don't know if you know who Andrew Tate is, but he is a media influencer, former MMA fighter, turn, like motivational speaker, guru of sorts

There is a culture, yes, that kind of says, yes, this is okay, but let's be real here, okay? The ones that are saying that it's okay are the ones that are trying to take away our rights and tell us what we can and can't say that's who's doing that. The majority of the country, I'm sure, would agree with you guys that you shouldn't be

And so essentially if you start to look at zoomed out a bit more and different ideas than steak and eggs and steak and potatoes, but concepts of what is common sense or what is courtesy or what is polite, et cetera, et cetera, then the configuration or network of symbols is going to be different. Which goes back to my original point, right? Because behavior within that friend group could be perceived as rude if you don't share that same configuration or network of symbols
