Listen fast, talk slow. Let’s talk…

Hey. Swell. This is Rev. LJ. I want to thank you so much for taking the time to listen to this post. And I got a quote for you today. A wise person fills their mind before they empty their mouth. Let's talk about it. In today's society, we have so many different platforms for communication text, email, voice, and even chat spaces. How often do we fall victim to speaking too soon?

However, what I was successful in, because you got to celebrate your successes, is that I didn't allow it to interrupt or avert my demeanor at work, my disposition at work. I didn't allow it to change my disposition with people I have different types of relationships with. I maintained a steady pace with those things

I think a lot of things that we're facing right now are growing pains with what was once understood and what is now the reality. So for instance, as an example, we have ideas of what empathy looks like when you're relating one human to another, but we haven't necessarily talked about reflected exactly how that looks or how that should play out when you're talking about one person using technology to broadcast to the entire planet

So that's what I was thinking of in terms of Apple's iOS feature and I think people do mean what they say but maybe it can come out the wrong way. So I'm thinking more of like drama instances where couples are going added with one another. Perhaps this could give them some added incentive possibly to go even harder knowing that they could take it away and it could be new mind games being played

Hey, Juan. I had the same reaction to the phrase. But what I really like about the experience is that we you know, we we sort of look at our own listening patterns, right? And we say, If I do this, how do you listen fast? It's almost like physiologically impossible. It's not like a muscle. You pump harder or something

@DBPardes 🤣🤦🏾‍♂️

First I was like, then when he mentioned the iPhone, I'm like, okay. But I think it was when I heard the replies where I'm like, Maybe there's something to this. And then I had started thinking about it, and I did a tiny bit of research. I just typed up key phrases. And at first I thought of fast thinking versus slow thinking. So there it was. I committed the offense

@SeekingPlumb: ☺️ Constant cognizance…

And I'm afraid that humanity, society, especially mainstream in Western culture, is sort of the squirrel in the road right now where we don't know if we want what we say and how we communicate, particularly in electronic or technological platforms. We don't know if we want it to be permanent. We don't know if we want it to be sort of this scattered kind of mindset that I see in my own interactions with people. And it's concerning

@FryedOreo: nudes that never happened…

I started to think about how in many cases there's such a paradoxy that exists with our use of, especially social media and the technology we want to upgrade, update the technology to allow us to erase, to retract some of the things that we say or even the things that we send and post. But at the same time, we've also enabled the ability to screenshot for perpetual record our own copy of things. Right?

@DBPardes: give pause…♥️

And of course, as the disclaimer, prior to even taking on counseling sessions or doing pastoral care one on one with someone or something like that, I will oftentimes experiment with silence, with giving silence or giving pause and openly declaring that so that they understand that the words have to make their way past my emotion. And I think what you said is it's really true. Right?

Instead of having to fall or stumble, we can at least have that few second window to undo the email or the message or a little longer to hit the undo button or delete or whatever it might be. But it's fascinating. I do think you're right that technology is sort of facilitating the reactions instead of thoughtful intention. And I think that that also is pushing along other aspects of how we exist or move through the world or society in that we are reacting to things instead of intentionally creating
