Gabby Petito Died of Strangulation, Cue Internet

article image placeholderGabby Petito
If you haven't heard Gabby Patito's cause of death has been ruled as triangulation, it's going to be all over the news, all over everyone's feeds. And it's interesting to me, specifically in how true crime is entertainment, especially in the age age of social media. Of course, the public has always had a thing for true crime. It's embedded in pop culture. It ranges from highbrow Detective stories to raunchy horror films to ripped from the headlines. Television franchises

True crime is a pop culture staple. #popculture #news #socialmedia #crime

It's difficult not to want to follow stories like this because you want to see justice served, but at the same time, something feels so personal and terrible about being a witness to a tragedy like this and how addictive the media around it can be. So negotiating those things. At the same time, I find to be kind of complicated because there's no part of me that wants it to be entertaining

So there's that and then on top of that, it kind of is a failure of dealing with domestic abuse and the signs that people have. And so it's educating the public in that way in terms of how do you recognize the domestic views? How do you deal with it that the blaming the victim. And you see that in people's response, continually saying before she was found to be murdered, that she was the abuser and that the police did everything that they were supposed to do

And either way, there clearly was a lot going on there, and there should have been some sort of intervention much earlier on. I remember there was one of the family members I can't remember if it was his sister or his mother at this point that just talked about like they fought, but it's just how they were. And I think way too often the kind of extreme arguing, especially with younger couples, is often normalized

So that rung true to me that her demeanor and her reaction was so extreme that it seemed beyond her just having OCD or anxiety, that she was definitely in crisis and that's kind of even if let's just pretend like she was abusing him, she was obviously in crisis and the fact that they didn't get a mental health counselor or someone beyond just a policeman to talk to her about her being in crisis

This isn't the particular article that I read, but it has a really good breakdown of how the police didn't do a really good job of dealing with the crisis and the complexity of identifying the Aggressor and the victim. So anyway, I'd like to know what your thoughts are on it. If you do have any thoughts
