Does Adele’s Weight Loss Disappoint or Inspire You?

article image placeholderAdele Then and Now
Anyway, I actually felt like the author was verbalizing my own discomfort and seeing Adele lose weight. I never saw her as fat, though I also thought she was much more beautiful before she lost all that weight. I often think that when I see people lose a lot of weight afterwards, they look got older and sometimes sickly. Thin doesn't always mean better looking. But recently Adele said her weight loss came from working out so much rather than trying to lose weight. Her goal was to be healthy

I confess, it disappoints me. #popculture #music #health #women #bodyimage Read more: https://bit.ly/3w5kwUz

@Maddie thanks for your thoughts

Nadi, thank you for your response. I appreciate you saying that you feel good and bad about her losing weight, and I agree with you that people need to be able, able to make any choice they want in terms of their health, and it's their own journey. That's kind of why I was saying it's in a way, not any of my business, but it does have consequences

@lissahoop @Maddie I also have complicated thoughts and feels!

And there have been periods in which I've lost some weight from that. And there have been other periods in which I haven't. There also have been scenarios where I lost weight and people comment on it. They're like, oh, you look great, and they just assume that you're healthier, you're doing well and oftentimes in those situations when I've lost weight, it's because I've been sick or I'm depressed or I'm not doing well

@bowie disordered eating and more?

Thanks, Bowie, for kind of walking me through some of the more complicated aspects of her losing weight and the things that she's talked about. I saw something

Also the person I was going to mention I saw in the news today, Rebel Wilson, I don't know if she said this on Instagram or it was just a quote. But she mentioned that she got more publicity in losing losing her weight, that she did four films the year before, and she got more publicity during the year that she did nothing except losing weight. Now she's kind of publicly shown her journey of losing weight

And even then it would be a real stressor to make sure I have that time or set it aside every day. It's not sustainable or possible for most people. And I do think that's a very class based, and I appreciate that she acknowledges it, but does it reflect what is possible for most people who are trying to manage their anxiety or lose weight for whatever reason? No. And I absolutely think it makes a lot of sense to be concerned about disordered eating and also over exercising

@bowie exercise 3x a day!!!

Whatever her goal was, I was thinking about how that's not normal or necessarily healthy, because if you have so much anxiety that you have to exercise three times a day, I would think that could be managed in other ways than just exercising three times a day. And I'm thinking about how much wear and tear that would take on your body if you're exercising three times a day, depending on what intensity she's doing that and that is she doing it because of her image?

And I know some kids that were doing that in high school to try to get scholarships and things like that, and their entire life was about waking up, working out, going to school, working out, doing homework, repeat. And I can only imagine what it would be like to have to make time three times a day for training

Hey, Melissa, thank you so much for bringing this up. And thank you to Maddie and Berry for continuing what has become a really interesting conversation. I just wanted to weigh in from a perspective of somebody who battled with an eating disorder for 13 years, and basically on a daily basis, has to fight against what is in our society, a diet culture. Everything is around weight
