Five Years (a poem)

article image placeholderfather & daughter
Five years feels a lot like tonsillitis or a bad case of strep throat with a side of Daddy issues left out to dry like Apple chips he accommodates, he regrets, and it makes his eyes pink, the shade of pink. They were the night she died, when he hid from you for several months. But that's alright now you suppose there's something in him you almost want to forgive, but his voice is strange and crack down the middle

I found an old poem I wanted to share. #poetry #writing #family #relationships #creativewriting

context

So this poem is about my relationship with my father. It's about how we didn't talk to each other for about five years. And then out of nowhere, he reached out to me and told, told me he wanted a relationship with me. And before we ever saw each other again, we FaceTimed. We video chatted. And it was the first time that I'd seen my dad's face in five years. And he's an old man. He's in his early 70s now
