Experiencing Bi-erasure

article image placeholderBi Flag
And these sort of mindsets are perpetuated by being repeatedly asked things like, well, why don't you just pick, choose men or choose women? And that sort of just puts people like me in a box when there doesn't need to be a box. I think anyone who identifies as bisexual or you could say pansexual, they are attracted to people. They're attracted to the person, not what's in between their legs, not their body parts

I've been thinking about the impact bi-erasure has had on myself and others lately. #lgbt #bi #queer #relationships #loveislove

It's just that it's not fair to call anybody that the amount of people that you can centrally sleep with does not determine whether or not you're a w**** or whatever. That is all bullshit. But to go back to the point of what I was trying to make, there's a double standard. It's like, Why can't you just choose one? But then it's also at the same time because you can't choose one

do we need labels?

I also acknowledge that I might just be overthinking all of this, but I think at this point queer might be a more accurate label for me just because I feel like it is more encompassing of the variety of people I could be attracted to. That being said, I still think that even if I'm not identifying as bisexual, it's still important to have these sorts of discussions about bi erasure, because bi erasure is one of the reasons that people keep changing their minds about identifying as bisexual
