"President Biden’s plan for free universal preschool 5 questions answered" by Christina Weiland

And so for preschools at such a young age, it's fundamental and foundational for kids to have that playful experience and socialization skills, but also learn, I guess, academic knowledge as well. And so I'm really excited to see how far this plan will go, and hopefully it will even be passed. And the last thing I want to say before ending my analysis, but she mentioned the question asked is, can you explain the targeted versus universal arguments around funding of preschool?

optimal balance between play- and academic- based curriculum?

Hi, Dr. Voyland. Thank you so much for making the time to come to swell and to answer some questions. I'm so excited to gain more insight into this topic, and so let's I'll just jump right into it. So in your article, you state that good, high quality preschools integrate both playbased and academic based curriculum. What is the optimal balance, if any, between play and academic curriculum for preschool students change through kindergarten and in upper grades

Qualifications for preschool teachers?

So my second question has to do with kind of like the logistics of this proposal. And so you explain that the teachers in these new universal preschool programs would be paid in line with K to twelve teachers if they have comparable level qualifications. So currently in Buyin's proposal, are the qualifications for the preschool teachers different from that of primary school teachers? And if so, what are those qualifications

Universal vs Targeted approches?

My third question has to do with the different approaches you mentioned in your article. So you mentioned that the difference between targeted and universal approaches, and just to give our small community just like a recap of what what those are so targeted approach. People who are advocates of targeted approach argue. And this is from Dr. Allen's article that if people can afford to pay for private preschool, then those public dollars don't need to go there

Any opposition?

And so my last question has to do with the part of the article where you mentioned that this may become a partisan issue, but at the state and local levels, universal preschool is not a red or blue issue. And so my question is, is there any strong opposition to public funded preschool, or is there just a debate on what type of implementation such as targeted universal, et cetera. Should be integrated?
