Work-life balance

article image placeholderUploaded by @Komal_luthra
So I just want to suggest everybody listening here to maintain a proper work life balance so that you are able to maintain your overall well being and prevent these burnouts because a balance between your personal and professional commitments will provide you more stability and it will also boost your job satisfaction. So ultimately, you will develop better skills and it will increase happiness in the workplace as well. So it's a win win. So that is my take on work life balance

Which again leads me to another thing that I was guilty of a few years ago, which was overcommitting if there was something that needed to be done, say in 24 hours or a couple of days. I always had this urge to race against time and get it done in the shortest possible time, which kind of ended up in a situation where I was putting too much pressure on myself, challenging myself to deliver more and within the shortest turnaround time that it led to sort of burnout, I could say

But when it happened, when I had the realization that I was just doing too much and I was not able to manage other sides initially, I took some time to realize that it is not the organization, it is me. I am the one who is choosing to take that much pressure. I am the one who is not setting the expectations right. So basically it is us, we have the choice. So I just wanted to highlight that part and how you deal with it later sometimes becomes critical

But yet, time and time again, every time promotion time came around, I was told, well, you don't seem like you're ready, or you didn't seem like you were focused or you didn't have this or you didn't do that. We're not looking at everything that I've done. You're looking and nitpicking at little itty bitty things that really just were not even valid reasons to not promote anybody

And I don't know if it was this conversation, but my two question rule that I always talk about with people, that if whatever I want to buy, with this money that I want to earn, will it make me happy?

A lot of people didn't intentionally decide to work from home or work remote. They're now still doing it. And I find when I'm coaching people that there's a few things going on that make the old way of thinking about work life balance not work anymore. So a few things here. One I'd love for people to consider, can we shift this and really think about this as energy balance? Like, how much do I do in a day that gives me energy and feels great?

You. Hi Christine. It has taken a week for me to respond to this because I honestly it's an old thread. I did not notice it before. Sorry about that. But yeah, everything you have said is actually relevant. I really appreciate you talking about energy balance. See, this is true that a few years ago we were told all of a sudden it was unplanned that we will now be working from home. It started off fun, it was a lot of freedom
