Curatorial Activism in the Art World

article image placeholderUploaded by @katiecal
There's a way higher percentage of women who are art studio and art history majors while in the actual field. And the work, the majority are all men. So I thought this article was really enlightening in it. One of the quotes is, in the west, greatness has been defined since antiquity as white, Western, privileged and above all, male

People of color and women are just as talented, if not quite often more talented. And this is a serious issue. And since art is so important to me and I loved my art history classes in College, I love art. I love the history of art. I love the presence of art and what artists are doing. And thank you for drawing my attention to this

As you can probably tell, our National Gallery has gone some way to addressing the gap in certainly in feminist in female art in Australia with a show called Know My Name, and that is a show about 100 Australian women artists. But I get what you're saying in the permanent collections, the big kind of galleries where there's influential collector base is we just don't get attraction

I'm glad to hear that Australia has that Know My Name exhibit. I think that's really important. I definitely think that, you know, this book was kind of in the perspective of the US, just the US, but although they did include some and other museums like in Europe and stuff, but there definitely needs to be a lot more work done
