How do we remember?

Myelin's iconic sculpture, and that led me to think about this poem and then to look it up by Yusuf Komanyaka, who himself is a Vietnam veteran and who is a really major American poet. This poem is called Facing It. My black face fades hiding inside the black granite. I said I wouldn't, d*** it. No tears. I'm stone, I'm flesh. My clouded reflection eyes me like a bird of prey. The profile of night slanted against morning

A poem about the Vietnam Veterans Memorial by Yusef Komunyakaa
