Is the binge watching habit therapeutic or toxic?

Or can you feel the detrimental effects of spending a lot of time on it creeping up in your day to day lives? And therefore, my larger question is whether you is the binge watching habit, therapeutic, toxic

A blessing and a curse!

I mean, I remember the good old days of going to rent the Lost DVDs at Blockbuster. I purposely put it off and I'd stay up for 7 hours the early hours of the morning. Just watching the first few seasons of that show which I love so much can't say the same about the end of the show, but it was fun while it lasted

A balance?

It needs to have social intercourse with humans and not just look at the screen. I think balance. It's all about balance. That's when if it's not balanced, it's toxic. If it's balanced, it's delicious and therapeutic. How about that

Entertainment and escapism

I would say many excuses to sit up and do a lot of binge watching the gloomy picture that surrounds us, motivates us to look at other sources of entertainment, not being able to step out and move out. But the problem definitely is when it keeps you from looking at other relationships beyond the confines of the artificial, the superficial world, right, which they keep feeding you. And that's when it starts becoming dangerous

Too much of a good thing... 😌

So I haven't seen a ton of stuff I never saw Lost, never saw Game of Thrones, anything, never saw any of it. Really? In fact, I think what's particularly more insidious is probably YouTube just because in comparison, the clips and the videos are so short, this is only two. But then before you know it, it's been 3 hours or 2 hours and you watched the length of an entire movie or series

Binge watching

I think Binge watching is fantastic. It gets you out of your head and sometimes there's no place or toxic than your own head. So I am probe Binge watching for sure

So when I'm in periods of crisis and stress in my life, I imagine because anxiety is based on future imagination. Right? And depression is often based on past regret. That's a reduction, by the way. But having that theory in one's head, let's talk about if you imagine the very worst that could happen and you take your brain, you take your imagination and your thoughts to an example of okay, if the very worst that could happen did happen, how would I feel?

Gathering information vs seeking experience.

But why necessarily with Netflix? Let's assume that we all love Netflix and we watch it all the time. I think what can become toxic more than therapeutic over time is that you are engineering your mind for this certain stimuli. So it's really only what you're hearing and what you're seeing is being stimulated in an artificial way. So this is the documentaries, the fictional stuff, whatever it may be over time

Self restraint is the key!

I regret snacking a bit too much while I'm on this binge watching marathons. I regret sleeping a lot less and zoning out from whatever has been happening around me a lot of things. And I've also observed that I tend to remember lesser details about the shows that I've been watched, which makes me wonder if binge watching, as contrary to the general belief, makes the experience of watching something much less enjoyable than if we were to just stick to an episode or to a day

Both 🤦🏾‍♀️🙂 @Karan.Dev

So let's say five episodes, and then it's like 45 minutes each, which is not quite 5 hours. I can feel something happening to me mentally and physically when I'm just watching and watching and watching. So yeah, I think both. I think it can be really good if you're just going through something and you just need to have something else to focus on. You have kind of a spinning kind of mind, which I do

In fact, during I'd say, most of my bouts of severe depression, which thankfully have stopped coming along every 18 months. I haven't had a bout of severe depression for perhaps four years, but I probably binged on something each time. There are not too many things you can do when you rush back into the house, lock the front door, close the curtains, and have to get through a day, just get through the time

And I've always felt lucky that I could not consume anything but just create quite a bit when I want to be in that space. But I think is there a balance for people that just are just outrageously talented consumers? They are called to consume, especially when they are inspired by art. So you consume art for one piece of the pie and then the other eight pieces of the pie is you creating art

Hey Karan. Well, according to me, this depends upon person to person and quality of content you watch. And another thing is that everyone should watch mind refresh stuff on their free days to get relief from all the hypertension through which they go through on every workday. It will be helpful for them, on other hand, to watch it too much, least to sacrifice your precious time. And yeah, this is true that everything is good if you use it in a limited tour. Thank you
