What are your (unique/odd) family traditions?

article image placeholderUploaded by @jsmwang
It used to be like presentations and we would just like, go from youngest to oldest. And of course we go last because he has the most important messages to make. But yeah. So I was just curious if anyone else has a fun or weird strange family tradition of any scale. And I just wanted to add on like, the smallest scale, it can be like the most imperceptible things

Hey. Hello. Good afternoon. I like this topic. It reminds me of the little things that me and my family do together. All the family traditions that we do. And I like when you said about how you and your family just cook a lot of food and sit at the table and watch TV while you're eating. I think that's pretty cool what me and my family do. I think this is a lot of families that literally try to live a life according to God

@jsmwang "Poverty is my family’s tradition." 🙏🏽🌊💭❤️

So there's a lot of different DNA wrapped up in our family, a lot of different customs and I guess perceived by us. Weird. But when you really think about it, it makes sense. Our family traditions are a reflection of the time and location of where they are. And this is why it really took us back, because it gave us a moment to really honor and admire and appreciate the generations before us. Excuse me. The reason why we're here

Well, my weird family thing is so we like to, like, ignore each other and when we get together, we you like to have one and then we, like, make digs at each other and it's supposed to be funny, but it's like there's truth under it. And then it's like we end up getting in a fight and then yeah, somebody punches the other. I don't even know

Hey, thank you so much for your response. I love these family traditions. Trisha on Sunday, and yeah, planning the summer trip. That is so fun. And I feel like it's always really nice to have something to look forward to and also kind of mark it marks the passing of time. Like the summer is coming and Sunday the end of the week. And, yeah, I really love it

And it is interesting, I guess, these things that have been passed down, but there's definitely space to evolve and change and yeah, I guess the fact that there is another generation and new cycles are born, that's that is also something to be hopeful about. But yeah. Thank you so much for sharing

Hey. Yeah. Wow. Ignoring each other, drinking wine, you said, making dings. I yeah, I definitely I definitely hear you. I think traditions can be really wholesome them and also they can be like not the healthiest things, but almost like a ritual, like a habit that we fall into because it is familiar and it is something that you do as a family and yeah, that's so interesting. Yeah, that really made me think

But having seen everyone's face, being able to interact with the family nowadays, I don't remember. It was the last time I was doing it. We all have very tight schedules, and sometimes we just like, one of us have to eat first, the other person will come home late. It's like hardly even together. But now I kind of remember what is the family traditions? What is the story behind it? What is the purpose of it?

Family is the most important thing. I think that's so beautiful. Like, as a ritual and also praying there's so much there, and yeah, I totally feel you on the eating too many dumplings. I feel like you're definitely just forced to eat way too many than you can handle. But, yeah, it's also, like, their way of showing love, I guess. But, yeah, I just love this ritual from beginning to end

Yeah, thank you. Unfortunately, we don't do it anymore. Ever since my grandparents passed away, my mum actually got really sick of folding the dumplings. So maybe once in a while we still do it, but then I kind of miss it, though. It's funny because we used to do it a lot, and my mom would be helping my grandma floating the dumplings ever since she was little, so I could see why she actually got sick of it. Yeah

Jay, this is such a great question. I love it. And thank you so much for sharing about your family. That's so cute. And yeah, I love that. I love getting little glimpses of other people's family life and yeah, my family. I'm trying to think I feel like we have so many, so I'll just share too. One is my dad would always tape Saturday Night Live because before there was all the platforms, like record things

And they did this for years. So his friend knew all of us, grandkids by name, knew things about us and stuff. And it was kind of magical how that happened, because added to the magic of Santa Claus and Christmas for us, that Santa actually knew who we were, what we'd been doing, and things about us. Looks like I'm about right out of time there

But me and my son are definitely bonding, and we're definitely building some traditions with ourselves that we can pass on and hopefully include to other members of the family as well. We're kind of strange and distant, but thank you for sharing this well. And that is my response. You have a wonderful day. Bye

Hey, I'm sorry to hear that you guys don't do it as much. I understand why also, that your mom is sick of it. Hundreds of dumplings is a lot, but it sounds like you really enjoyed it and yeah, I hope it continues in some shape or form sometime in the future. Yeah. My family traditions with dumplings, it was a huge part. I would do it whenever I went back to China and visit my family members there

Sometimes there's just a lot of anxiety, and sometimes you don't feel like it, but then now you just have all these recordings of yourself, which is so amazing, and I honestly would love to watch one, and I'm just really inspired by that as a gift. Thanks for sharing

Unfortunately, I guess traditions are a mix of the good and the bad, but it sounds like and you've created great traditions with the family that you have now, and that is such the greatest gift ever

And yeah, I like the idea of the individual traditions for yourself and also the idea of family as your chosen family. It can be with friends as well. So that is awesome. And thanks for sharing

I mean, if it's on like a Thursday or something, we might wait till Saturday. But we buy lots of presents, eat lots of food, and it's just we just spend time with just our family. Mom, dad, kids, like no one else. Not even the grandparents or cousins. Just the five of us. And we have a great time. That's probably the biggest one
