How do you take notes?

article image placeholderUploaded by @JonathanGossett
How do you take notes and in your opinion, which is the best for retaining information? I was just curious about this because I personally do a mix of different notetaking. I do some handwriting. I do some on Google Drive on notes in there. I do some on Microsoft Word, and I also do some on one note. So I do a variation depending on the subjects

Not only that, but externalizing your thoughts frees up mental bandwidth for thinking, making it much easier to memorize what you need and makes it less likely that you will forget what you write. And I also use Google Documents to save some of the dates of the experiments. It helps me a lot and when the lecture content is intense, the mapping method works best. It helps organize your notes by dividing them into branches, enabling you to establish the relationships between the topics

And she handwrites her notes when I tell you I don't understand her notes, it works for her. But if I were to use her notes, I would not understand them because I've asked her for notes for class. And I'd be like, what did you write? I don't actually know. And I mean, she always has A's and everything. So it works for her

I have to say this is a really interesting conversation because so many people just take notes in a different way. Some people use Google Docs, Microsoft Word. I use both of them, but I am old fashioned and just using a notebook and sitting down and writing what's on the PowerPoint and what are on the slides and in the textbook. For me, it's always helped me with writing and I just feel like I just memorize things in a much better sense when I write them down

I actually do like Google Drive, but I think just because my work and like my school uses Microsoft teams and everything like that, I just got used to using Microsoft Word and all those other apps

And I honestly could say out of all the classes that I'm doing, I retain the most information from that class and that is the one I strictly do handwriting notes for and the other ones I do online. And I feel like the other classes I, to be honest, just do the bare minimum and try to write down definitions

I'm so jealous. My boyfriend has an iPad as well and he uses that strictly for notes. He never does handwriting and I guess that counts as handwriting though, on his iPad. But I'm so jealous of you. Sorry going to use the word iPad, b******. I really want one so bad. So yeah. Thank you for leaving your comment

Honestly, it's game changer. I can't lie. I got it only like three weeks ago and it has been a different ball game right on the iPad because you download the PowerPoint, you download PDF files and you just write all up on them. So I definitely find it to be efficient. But I got lucky though. I didn't have to buy it because my little sister, she's like, hey, I just took it from her. I'm being honest

So I personally handwrite my notes. I've been doing it for as long as I can remember, and I've honestly never gotten the urge or like, the desire to stop and like, transfer to computer or something like that. I know there is research out there that helps helps handwriting your notes, helps to retain information better, and I'm sure it does. But personally, I just love being able to write all over the page and draw arrows and connect things visually

For me. I think I'd definitely prefer handwriting my notes. I can't remember a time I didn't write my notes by hand. I mean, only this semester have I, like, used my laptop offer notes, and it's just because the class requires me to pull up other Windows and go to blackboard and use online tools. So it just makes it easier to have notes on the computer while I'm doing that. But otherwise I feel like I get distracted with my laptop in class

But if I was to ever share those notes with people, no one would be able to read them. So I'm not sure what works better for me. I always hand wrote my notes in high school, but I just found in College it was easier to type just because of the speed of the lecture. Don't know. I really don't know what's more beneficial

Hey, Jonathan. So for most of my assignments, I use OneNote. And that's because most of the things I have to do are like equations and calculations and things like that. And writing it all out is great for me. But I do don't really like papers. So I prefer to have it all stored on my computer. And then in terms of essays and lab reports and things like that, I use Google Drive and I store everything in folders and things like that

Hi Jonathan. So for me, like, taking notes, like written notes is really helpful. I feel like it helps me retain the information really well. And then I feel like it helps me understand it a little bit better too. Just like taking notes in my own own words so I can kind of understand the topic and then I can read it over again and kind of fully grasp it. That really helps me. I'm kind of like a visual learner and I like to think through things

Just for the reason that I'm very much a perfectionist when it comes to my notes. And I like when I'm handwriting them for them to be perfect. And that's just not really realistic for being in class and stuff. And I used to literally rewrite my notes in high school to just make them prettier. And there's no way you'll catch me doing that now. Yeah, I'd say good notes is my favorite way to take notes now

I do on my computer a lot because I have to do a lot of vocabulary for my Italian course that I'm taking myself and as well as I do a lot of writing for my other classes on my computer. And when I have to do, like, an essay or something, I start doing it on a piece of paper or, like, in my notebook, because I think it's faster for me just to make my ideas flow in general, though. So it's interesting

Also, if I have to remember stuff, I will write down the notes. Last semester, I did not do too hot in another science class because I Typed all the notes. And then I would go on camera, do a little design or go check other things, and it was just so distracting. And I feel like having friends peer pressure me to pay attention in class is amazing. And also, writing down notes has helped so much, especially with my grades and attention retention

My favorite type of note style is handwriting because whenever I handwrite my notes, I feel like it goes into my brain better. But I honestly need to get better at my notetaking skills because I'll take notes would start in class, but then when it comes time to studying, I don't really look at the notes that I took. I usually just look at the slide shows and the visuals that the professor made for our class, so I need to work on doing that

Hi notetaking has been something that's been very personal to me and I try to do it wherever possible. So it gives me surety of things that I've heard. And it proves as a base that I have something written down. And so I have some substance with me like that. Taking notes now, there has been so many ways the app notion there are so many other ways on your computer that you can pay, even though typing on the computer is something that I've always liked
