The 94th Annual Oscars: Dubs and Snubs

Besides that, I'm really happy that encounter got me for a couple of awards at home for visuals as well as Chi. However, I am a little upset that Eternals did not get nominated for Best Visuals, even though it is marvellous and even though a lot of people didn't like it, the visuals is what made the movie, honestly. And I'm also upset that Lady Gaga did not get nominated for Best Actors as well as Jennifer Hudson

And then there was some real odd snubs for me, but I think it sort of speaks to what you were talking about, like the Academy, they're very particular types of people. So it was weird that The Green Light was not nominated for anything. At the very least, you think that cinematography it be in there. And The Last Duel, one of my favorite films of last year, really blew me away. Nothing. I mean, nothing. Jodie Comer was brilliant in that movie

But it reminds me of the line of the director for Parasite. I don't want to say his name because I probably will get it wrong. But when he won the award, he was saying how and I'm paraphrasing, don't quote me on this, but that once people get above that, like the little subtitle line, you'll be able to open your eyes to a whole lot more in film and TV

Hi, Jonathan. I would first like to thank you for bringing up the varying perspectives you did in your discussion and the way that you looked at the Oscars and the way it's nubbed certain categories and Actors of Foreign Films, films. I think that's a very telling of who is making these decisions and that things do need to change

And I definitely hope that the Academy and different award shows learn and make changes moving forward because I think there's a possibility that this is going to become a relic of the past. Unfortunately, as a lot of things like movies like going to the movie theaters is becoming more wary, especially because the Kova 19 pandemic. But only movies like Marvel and yeah, I mean, mainly only Marvel is the one that's racking out money from Spiderman Away, Home to Eternals to Shanghai

And I think a big way to comment this, which I talked about in my business class earlier, I know it's not necessarily Oscars related, but bringing back in people to the multiplex is through the Super Bowl and doing that through TV spots, full length trailers. A prime example of this was in 2019, the Super Bowl dropped its second main trailer for Jurassic World Dominion. And Lo and behold, that movie grossed a billion dollars worldwide

So I definitely think that played an impact on the amount of money that would be rocked in at the movie theater as well as like Dune and Mortal Kombat and Godzilla versus King Kong
