Poser Vinyl Collectors, Supply Chain Issues and Woes of the Vinyl Collector

article image placeholderVinyl Is Selling So Well That It’s Getting Hard to Sell Vinyl
And so I would just want to say to new vinyl collectors to ease yourself into it, explore a little bit. It's a really good opportunity to support artists in a way that we can't do streaming services because they don't take in enough and to just wait it out because the prices right now are out of control, and hopefully that will improve the months after the pandemic starts to improve itself

Hey, Jessica, this is a very interesting post, man. Like you. I you sound like you are much more heavily into collecting and and everything else than I'm I am. I have my old collection, some of my dad's collection, and then I buy stuff from the record shop, some new but mostly originals. It depends if I really rants to start researching and I'll look to see what's better the new pressings or the old pressings

Love everything you have to say! @MarkR

I think some not original pressings, but they're not brand new. They're not fresh pressed anyway. Good stuff. I'm so glad you've of the post. And if you can get your friend to comment, even if you had to relay the comments, I'd love to hear what he has to say. It's an interesting time to be a collector. Thanks so much

Oh, and about the poem… @MarkR

Sometimes poems come out pretty much at once, and they require a little bit of editing down the road. I this one's being stubborn, but I do promise I will share it with you when it's finished

You writing a poem. So yeah, take as long as you like, make it work. I can't wait to hear it, but I can. I'm looking forward to hearing it whenever it comes out, whenever you've finished it. What was I going to say? My Otis Blue. It's not an original Otis Blue. It's a reissue, but it's a special edition because it is blue. It's a really cool blue vinyl

It's funny that it's great hits too, because I actually don't buy greatest hits. There's a sketch on one of my favorite old shows, Kids in the hall, and the sketch is this really hardcore Jim Morrison, Doris fan who's running a record shop, and he has kind of like a Metro sexual type Depeche mode fan walking in and he tries to convert him. And the guy is looking for greatest hits albums

Just wanted to quickly add because I forgot that I did get a first pressing of London Calling, which is really great. My husband got it for me many, many years ago for my birthday, and I don't even remember where he got it. It I think some shop down the road in a community we no longer live, but I feel lucky to have it. It's pretty rants, but it plays well. That's what counts

I think I'm kind of with you on the compilation here, but it depends now. Sam Cook. I was introduced to Sam Cook by my dad in the 80s, and that would have been a compilation. I've got it. I've got this compilation album. And I think that with Sam Cook early on in his career, most people there's an album. I can't remember what it's called. I think it's just Sam Cook with his face smiling on the front

And when they finished their set and they went upstairs, you go upstairs. They were hanging out up there. I went and I said to the security, the bouncer or their security, can you give them this record and ask them to sign it? It was a CD. And this album ain't that good news. So he drowned. He looked at it like that. Anyway, he went up and he came back and he just said there was a very confused look on his face

Thanks for singing!

It's just another really physical way of enjoying music because it's such a physical thing as much as it is in your soul and in your voice. And yeah, keep that singing going. And thanks for recommending that Sam to Cook song in the very beginning. That one. It's only vaguely familiar, and it sounds so good. I don't know if you gave me the title, but I'm going, I'll search it out. You take care. Happy Halloween. Thanks. Bye

Hi, Jessica. So yeah. Yes. Linda WOMAC, I'm gonna put a little link to her bio so you can just check it out. You remember her song Teardrops, but yeah, not much. Many people know that she's Sam Cook's daughter. And like you, I like looking into who's, who. And somehow I found out I don't know how. But yeah, I'll put that here

Okay. So here is the first album. This is Ain't That Good News and Good Times is on this. And this is the one that I got asked Linda Romax assigned for me. My CD version, which was is like a cardboard. A cardboard version of a CD has like a cardboard cover. But I have my dad's old original copy now

Another amazing album. This is a one night stand. It's called Harlem Square Live Album. It probably is one of the greatest live albums of all time. You can hear the excitement from the crowd. It's absolutely, really amazing. I have this on CD and vinyl. You can get it again. It's on RCA. I got a new version on vinyl. It's brilliant. Check it out. You'll enjoy it, even if you stream it

Alright. Here's the last album I'll recommend by Sam Cook Night Beat. It's a Blues album, really cool album and it's different, very, very cool and laid back. And I'm sure you'll enjoy this one too

Mark, thank you so much. I'm all set up now and I'm going to see if I can get a copy of this album because as I said, I'm not a fan of just having greatest hits albums. That's not acceptable. But you know what? I am grateful still, that I have sound Cook on vinyl, but I'm going to move on to this one next. This is fantastic stuff

It's called Sam Cook Legend. It's one of the best Sam Cook documentaries I've ever seen. And you'll really get to know everything about Sam Cook. There's another documentary. It's on Netflix called The Two Killings of Sam Cook, which goes into his death more than his life. But the Sam Cook Legend is north you watching, and I'm going to link it right here. Okay. Now I hate to say this. I really do

And they all knew Sam Cook really well. And Lou Rolls made he's on that record. He made a tune with Sam. That record. It's one of my favorite Sam Cook records tunes. And it's on Ain't that good news with new Rolls? They sound like they're having a party. Bring it on home to me. That's it my new roles. But they're all in the documentary Legend

Vintage?

Jessica, this is interesting to me because I wasn't really aware of the industry or the products that are new vinyl that I guess there's a lot of musicians and indie musicians that apparently are coming out with that because I always think of vinyl as something that is a used thing, and that's where the collecting comes from, the collecting, the history of it

So mentioning Aretha Franklin and Lou Rolls is equally as exciting. So, yeah, I've gone in and both of those are available to me for free. So I will absolutely be watching them. And I'll give you a full report. Thanks so much

Vinyl is a thriving market for contemporary acts and vintage finds @lissaho

So what you find at Goodwill is usually thoroughly scratched and full of grit, and it's usually a whole lot of nanomiscurry. And I'm not quite sure why. I guess that's just what's left over. But anyway, so yeah, for vinyl collecting, it's definitely not a vintage thing. It never has been. It just quieted down for a good number of years. Vinyl has always been pressed even through the 90s

I'm talking 50 or 100, and the pricing is kind of very enticing. The huge problem is that they skip a lot of steps in the mastering. And yes, technically, your album is on vinyl, but it's really not mastered the way any of the great albums in your collection are. Let's just say that way. And Ironically, people are too naive to really understand that they're skipping a step and cutting some major corners

Thanks so much for the insight!

Hi Marco, thank you very much for giving an artist perspective. That's really helpful. I think for everyone who's listening and following along, and it's just really interesting because things are changing so much in terms of the way that vinyl is being consumed, that it's hard to keep track. But you definitely point out some nuances that are so important to pay attention to

And Ben Camp is not such a gatekeeper, so you can put demos, you can put Rarities and B sides, you can put sketches of things and they're not going to make you feel awkward about that. And it's just more stuff for your fans to check out or they can ignore it. But hands down. They are the most artist friendly place to throw money at music that you want to buy from people that you really like

You bet! @Marconorth

Hey, Marco. Yeah. Thanks so much for reminding me about Bandcamp. It's funny, you know, the whole Spotify thing and even Apple music, which I don't subscribe to it's just through their store. It's only been a few purchases because I was quite strictly just final or finding other ways to listen. So yeah, it's a good time now that I'm getting into this a little bit more. I'm fairly like. I don't know
