You can kind of noodle around for five minutes and say that you're writing ambient music, and it's very hard to call you out on that. But I think that you actually have to really sweat over it as a composer or an arranger and get past noodling and really do try to create a structure. It can be a very elusive structure.…"

And I think about Basinski again because I had forgotten about him for so long, and I was reintroduced to his disintegration loops, and I wrote a poem in response to it because I was so overwhelmed with sadness and beauty. It was very profound. And I really agree that lyrics, it's not everything.…"

I think sometimes it's just finding the right piece of music, but everyone's got a piece of music, either a genre or a song or an album that just makes them stop and relax or brings them back into the room or helps them to just lose themselves for a bit. Music is very powerful.…"
