Power Synth for your Monday: Story of "West End Girls" & why it’s compelling

article image placeholderWith “West End Girls,” Pet Shop Boys set a high standard for U.K. hip-hop
It was ubiquitous, and it plays with genre as a response to the emerging rap scene. Even though it's a monotone delivery with a British accent, there's something about it that one over the US market, where especially songs with a thick British accent would never be successful. So that's what's really interesting about it. And to me, I think it's just compelling on that haunting tone alone. Av Club makes the backstory even more compelling by framing it as a typical hiphop song. Quote

I 💕💕💕💕💕 this song! Rocking in my chair @JLMcMillan

And whatever you said they did to the song when they did it again, it is timeless, because right now I'm going to probably just download it to my little library and listen to it. But thank you. This is good. This is a great swell. Thank you so much. Have a great day. Bye

Enchanting!

I like how you chose that word enchanting because it is it just really pulls you in the sound and the build up of it. And they did a good job. And I know what you mean to buy how you intrinsically know something. There was something really that stood out about this song, and obviously a lot of other people picked up on that. And that's why it was so big, and it's still so good. So, yeah, thanks so much
