There Is a Light That Never Goes Out: Songs that pull you out of darkness

So in other words, just because I'm listening to a whiny netter like Morris doesn't mean I believe in his right leaning views and that their album shouldn't be banned, and an adult should be able to walk into a record shop and make that decision, he says. Perhaps it is better to simply let Morrison have his views, challenge them when and wherever possible, but allow his music to live on

@JLMcMillan A different music philosophy

I want something to share in the pain and the gloom and the despair and the despondency and the discouragement and the depression. I think there's a place maybe for both. So what music pulls you out of the darkness, into the light and what music just simply lays down with you in the darkness and becomes your companion and your voice. Expressing how you feel about the darkness in a way in which you cannot. You can tell me your thoughts whether you agree or disagree

Music is an emotional vocabulary @tjh

I'm definitely not coming from one here. Just the same with The Beatles. If anything, that's probably why I shy away a bit. I actually appreciate them. I have Beatles records. I appreciate a lot of their songs. I'm just not bowing down to them in the same way as these singular sort of sources of divine musical inspiration as some might

And she has all the for herself for that. And the last one is MercedesBenz by Janice Joplin, and it's just good fun poking fun at capitalism, poking fun at God. And I think just those songs being United by having a little giggle at the end from the artist is just so charming and always puts a smile on my face. I have considered starting what will start as a very small playlist of songs where there's a little chuckle from the artist at the end

Great songs and playlist idea!

Thank you for such a delightful reply, especially the anecdote and the playlist idea for the anecdote. I have heard of Echo Belly, but you're propelling me to check them out further, not because of the regret that Morris gave, because it is. Yeah. I mean, his presence is just unfortunately not welcome anymore. Luckily, we can separate that enough to enjoy the music. But I love your idea for a playlist and that's so creative and inventive

Yay. I found it. It's on an old compilation that I bought in the late nineties and it's the first take and there's even some goofing around in the beginning. I hope you enjoy it

So lots of the songs are about her kind of discovering herself and trying to sort of unpick this, like, very conservative past. And there's some really beautiful songs there actually
