Pondering Karma: destiny vending machine, or energy persisting?

article image placeholderUploaded by @jemecherche
And I don't know enough about Buddhism to really understand what their concept is, except that there is a certain amount of I believe doing a good thing because you're banking on the future, doing a good thing so that your next life will be easier

Like, what is the impact of what is going on in your mind out into the world? What is the impact of your internal world on the outside world, if that makes sense? And I think, too, when you consider the teaching, so there's a concept in Buddhism called dependent origination, and it essentially is referring to the fact that everything in this world is inherently interconnected

I don't know if that's always been true. I have no idea. I'm in one of my moods where I don't claim to know everything. It's not like literally manic Monday. Sorry, bad song quote. I'm not sure how much this response is making sense at this point because I'm about to fall asleep. But thank you very much for your response and I did appreciate it. And now I've got a couple of things I want to go look up

@futurenmdyogi @jemecherche just some rambling thoughts from a Buddhist gal…

It could be something as simple as I don't know, there's stories, for example, somebody ate a fish and that fish had been a mother in a past life. And then, because they had contact with the teachings, then by eating that fish, then that fish got liberation in a subsequent life. It's not necessarily logical and it's part of just the Buddhist cosmology
@futurenmdyogi
Hey, Arya. I absolutely love what you said, especially the emphasis on blameless causality. Yeah, it's such an amazing perspective that you offered. So just wanted to swing by and tell you that I knew you'd have a great perspective for this and glad to connect with a fellow Buddhist on the path. Wishing you an easeful weekend and a great week ahead. And we will chat soon

And I think that if people can really harness that energy, I mean, it can do so much for you in your personal life anyways. Yeah, I don't know a lot about Buddhism either, but the idea of karma, I think, is something that's so baked into our society that you hear people talk about it all the time, whether or not they're talking about the original concept or not. People tend to apply that concept to their own life from time to time

Hi, Christine. That was a really good explanation of Karma, and what an interesting question. So I was thinking about how I would answer it as I was listening to your answer, and my definition of Karma has evolved over the past. I don't know. It's evolved, and it's evolved a lot over the past couple of years. I always thought of Arya, historically, as like, what you put out, you get back, right?

I really appreciate it and it's nice to know that you listened and that you thought about it. I think the more we all think about this stuff, the more the human race evolves, whether it wants to or not. So I hope you have a wonderful weekend and I'm going to come listen to some of your stuff. Thank you

So that's kind of how I just watched my mom absolutely die unpleasantly because of her regrets and all the things that she wished she could get a time to do a do over. I really wish she had survived this because I would love to have seen her second act, but she didn't. And I watched her flay herself with these things that she hadn't done or had left imperfected

Because I love the Sofist concept or Sufi concept of every breath of prayer and every movement of meditation. I love that thought. And so I'm kind of trying to build that into my life with mixed results. But it gets easier all the time and I get better at it all the time. Winning? No, that's not the point. But it's been a fascinating journey. And it's also fascinating just because when I talk to people about it, it's interesting, their responses

The word yoga is a spiritual practice. It has nothing to do with exercise. There were some physical there are some physical practices that went back pretty far in terms of that yogis used to do, but it wasn't yoga as it has been created as a system at the mid part of last century. So, yeah, definitely. I'm technically American, but I only lived 13 years of my life in the US. Pretty much I'm kind of a UN poster child

Someone we know has had some very bad news in the last week and everybody's responses to it are fascinating to me because people want to have a feeling or an opinion about this occurrence and I don't feel like I need to have an opinion or a feeling about it at all. I have feelings about the person and about how tough this is going to be for them, but I don't feel like I have to have an opinion on what happened to them
