Has the definition of a special occasion changed over the years?

article image placeholderUploaded by @jeffcross222292
We tend to put a special occasion on just about anything anymore, so we tend to do that. And the reason besides Duan's post Swell on it, it made me think of this past weekend at the holiday weekend, we had Labor Day and my mother in law, who is 87, was traveling with us and we were traveling through her old small town of the town she grew up in now has about, I think 100 people in it. So it's a pretty small town

A day for everything now to where nothing is sacred. And when something sacred happens or something sad happens, we treat it like any other day. So it's good. There's people like you out there that have a strong sense of need for tradition. Strong sense of need for tradition time where tradition is constantly being made in front of us rather than honoring what was behind us. For it is always around us

Ease and convenience

And it does kind of remind me. I was at one of my relatives a couple of weeks ago, and his in laws were having a party, a birthday party for somebody. And they invited me along, said, Why don't you bring him? And my relative was like, Please come with me. I need somebody to talk to there

Funerals, weddings and family reunions, which we had one this past family reunion, and I became the popular cousin at that one because I was going up in there. Like, I did not take off work, spend gas money, put mouse on my car, drive all the way down here, get an airbnb to come up in this family reunion. Everyone's going to just cluster with their nucleus. Like, I was going table to who are you? How are we related?

I'm like, I would never spend $200 on a pavilion for a child's birthday party. Maybe a sweet 16, maybe a graduation party, maybe I was just like, I can't believe if you're going to be doing this for somebody who's turning three, well, what are you going to do when it is special? Like they're turning double digits, like ten or they turn 16 or they're an adult at 18 or 21

What if you just put a date on the calendar and save the money from all the fancy celebrations or the fancy little suites and short term things and go make a memory with the family or something like that? There's a lot to be had, there's a lot to be experienced and everyone is allowed to experience their success and rewards and special occasions differently. And each person is allowed to change their mind from time to time, too, on what that means

It doesn't mean there needs to be a treat or anything other than just, okay, we're going to mindfully cook dinner and we're going to mindfully eat, or whatever it may be, but saying, oh, I accomplished this thing in building my own business today, and I'm going to celebrate it. I'm going to celebrate that I released my first course ever
