article image placeholderIMG-F6-D8-CA72-AD5-C-1
Hello, everyone and welcome to my swell cast today, I am really excited to talk with one of my mothers about our vegan Thanksgiving meal that we just had. My mother and I have a very similar voice, so just just so you know, you might not actually be able to tell her voices apart, but I promise that she is here with me, but also a Disclaimer

I talk with @Natalie28 about our #vegan #Thanksgiving meal! https://s.swell.life/SSHUBmPlDDBwgIW

My journey to becoming #vegan

I remember when I did eat meat as a kid that everything had to be burnt and I just didn't enjoy it. So it wasn't a difficult transition for me, with the exception of that being back in the 90s, I do believe 1990s, and there wasn't a lot of vegetarian vegan things out there at all, outside of just literally omitting meat and meals. What was really cool is that your grandfather, he really supported my becoming vegetarian and also became vegetarian

Why I love cooking

That focuses on cheap, easy vegan food that uses stuff that most people already have around, as well as meal prep and planning and calling it the fat vegan because I am fat and I love to eat, and I love vegan food, and I love cooking, and why not share all of that to just kind of help dispel some of the biases that people have about vegans being thin and white and loving yoga, though I do love yoga, I am not white and I am not thin

What did we eat today? #yummy

Thank you, mom, for giving that background. And it's really interesting, too, because some of that history and the background that you explained I didn't even know. So that's really that's really neat that I'm able to find that out. And I will say that I'm so thankful that I've been vegetarian my whole life

The difficulties of finding a vegan turkey roast and what we ate

Let me by start starting answering your second question. What the biggest hurdles are? I would say the biggest hurdle is actually finding if you are doing a store bought vegan Turkey roast is finding that at I think veganism has become so popular that even people who aren't vegan, but they maybe have a family member who is that people are just on the lookout for the fake Turkey products like the Tofurky roast. This year, we tried a new one, and this new one is called no Evil

More about what we ate

And at the pumpkin, which we grew from our garden, I roasted that, pureed it and made a pumpkin pie that I tasted. Isabella also tasted a little bit of it before it cooked as a pie. And I'm really excited we have not had dessert yet, but I'm very excited about that. I happened to get some whipped cream from the store, which again, is vegan. You can get several different kinds of whipped cream

To those listening: feel free to ask questions about veganism!

But if you're curious about anything having to do with veganism or vegetarianism, my mother is definitely the person to ask, so feel free to respond in this conversation, to ask any questions. You can also share your journey whether that be within veganism or vegetarianism, and also feel free to share if you're vegan or vegetarian, what you ate today for Turkey Day, if you do celebrate it, so definitely feel free to join us in this conversation. And thank you so much for listening
